This Actor Played Different Characters On Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Young Sheldon, And The Big Bang Theory

Since the moment that The Big Bang Theory premiered, the TV show has faced criticism from people like Joe Rogan, who didn’t understand the show’s success. In fact, Joe once told Macaulay Culkin he was lucky he didn’t star in The Big Bang Theory and Bert Kreischer insulted the show to Kaley Cuoco’s face. On the other hand, fans care enough to know Johnny Galecki dated Sheldon’s mom on another show, Craig Ferguson had an unofficial cameo, and the show traumatized a former teen star.

Even though fans of the franchise also know things like which guest star Jim Parsons liked the most, some facts about the show still aren’t widely known. For example, most fans don’t know that one actor played three different characters on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Young Sheldon, and The Big Bang Theory.

Lance Barber Portrayed Jimmy Speckerman On The Big Bang Theory

When most people think about the cast of The Big Bang Theory, there is a small group of people who come to mind. Those people are likely to be Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, and Melissa Rauch.

Some other people may also think of other actors, like Kevin Sussman, John Ross Bowie, Laura Spencer, Sara Gilbert, Wil Wheaton, Christine Baranski, and/or Laurie Metcalf. However, even though he would go on to mean a lot to the franchise The Big Bang Theory spawned, one actor certainly isn’t associated with the show.

Even though he did a great job on the show, nobody thinks of Lance Barber as one of The Big Bang Theory’s stars. However, the fact that Lance portrayed Jimmy Speckerman during an episode of The Big Bang Theory is fascinating in retrospect.

During the fifth season of The Big Bang Theory, fans got to see an episode titled “The Speckerman Recurrence.”

During that episode, the character Jimmy Speckerman was introduced as a bully who tormented Leonard when he was in high school.

During the episode, Jimmy reaches out to Leonard on Facebook asking to meet him. After initially being unsure about reconnecting with his former bully, Leonard ultimately agrees and the rest of the episode revolves around the emotional turmoil that results.

Cast as Jimmy, Lance initially portrays the character as someone who has turned over a new leaf. In fact, Jimmy even apologizes to Leonard for bullying him in the past at one point in the episode. However, Jimmy later reverts to the bully he’d been in high school, which gives Leonard the chance to stand up to him. However, Leonard’s attempt to push Jimmy does no damage and the scene gets a big laugh when he tries to run away from the bully who is in his own apartment.

Arguably perfectly cast as Jimmy, Lance did a wonderful job bringing both sides of the character together.

When Jimmy was trying to be kind and even apologetic, Lance managed to make the character as likable as anyone could be, given what viewers knew about his past. However, Lance’s formidable size made Jimmy an intimidating presence when the bully side of the character resurfaced.

Lance Barber Portrayed George Cooper Sr. On Young Sheldon

While Lance’s other appearances in the franchise are fascinating, there is no doubt that he is best known for his time starring in Young Sheldon. Lance portrayed George Cooper Sr. over seven seasons of Young Sheldon from September 25, 2017 until May 16, 2024.

Absolutely fantastic on the show, Lance made the most out of his Young Sheldon character in two main ways.

First off, virtually all Young Sheldon fans are bound to agree that Lance was funny as George. Able to portray a character who was often flabbergasted by his brilliant son and everyone else around him, Lance got laughs out of George being a curmudgeon. However, Lance’s version of George had a much more important attribute that played a major role in Young Sheldon’s success.

Since it has been a sitcom staple for years, shows featuring incompetant overweight men with domineering wives have become very tiresome. At first blush, people may presume Young Sheldon was another example of a show like that.

However, Lance imbued his Young Sheldon character with lots of heart that proved he was a lot more thoughtful than it may have seemed at first. A perfect example of that is the way, George’s relationship with his daughter, Melissa “Missy” Cooper changed over the years.

For example, as a YouTube video shows, George and Missy had an adorable “daddy-daughter date” when she was young. Another YouTube video showed how their relationship changed as the seasons progressed. The lovable way that Lance brought George to life made those moments possible. That heart is also why a scene that featured George and Missy fighting and then transitioned to him protecting her was so affecting, as yet another YouTube video shows.

Lance Barber Portrayed Zombie George Cooper Sr. On Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage

During The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon Cooper spoke about his father dying when he was young. As a result, it wasn’t surprising when George Cooper Sr. passed away during the final episodes of Young Sheldon. However, the thing that shocked a lot of fans was that Lance still appeared during an episode of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

The thing that was really shocking about Lance’s Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage cameo appearance was that he arguably played a new character on the show.

During Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, there was an episode that showed Georgie getting sick. While having a fever, Georgie had two dreams that featured an appearance by his departed father, George. As a YouTube video shows, it was during one of those dreams that fans saw Lance’s new character.

In a pair of dreams, Georgie reunited with his father, George, and they had brief discussions. During the first dream, Georgie and George hugged in an emotional moment for Young Sheldon fans. However, when Georgie lets go of the hug, the camera reveals a zombie version of George for a second.

While some people may think that it is a stretch to call that a new character, there are several reasons why Zombie George is something different. First off and most obviously, Zombie George looks very different. Secondly, Zombie George acts completely differently than Young Sheldon’s George ever would. Finally, Zombie George has a completely different voice. All things considered, Zombie George is a new character for the franchise.
