Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has called for political tolerance in Kano amid strong rivalry between the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shettima made the call Saturday in Kano when he paid a condolence visit to the family of late Galadiman Kano, Alh Abbas Sanusi, who died recently.
The vice president’s call resonated in the thick of impending defection of the Presidential candidate of NNPP in the 2023 general election, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and counter reaction on the possible collapse of opposition in the state.
The VP, who was accompanied by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and NNPP stalwarts, were received by the eldest son of late Galadiman who is also Chairman of APC in Kano.
The Vice President emphasised the significance of Kano in the political dimension of the Northern states, stressing that the impact of politics in Kano has strong implications across other states in the North.
“Please and please, I plead with you not to allow politics to divide you, you should be united. Kano is the heart of the north and I am from the North. Whatever happened in Kano affects other states in the North,” VP said.
Governor Yusuf applauded the Vice President on behalf of the state government and people of Kano for his visit.
“We thank you so much for coming to commiserate with us over the death of our father, grandfather. We pray for Almighty Allah to take you back home safely.” Governor Yusuf said.
