Yoruba actor, Abiola Kazeem, widely known as Jigan Baba Oja, has ignited a heated discussion on social media following his controversial comments about Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Jigan, who has gained significant attention through his live videos on TikTok, engaged in a conversation with a netizen, seemingly a devout Muslim, where he shared his perspective on the sacred city. According to Jigan, Mecca, also referred to as Umrah, has become more of a tourist destination in his view.
Despite his stance, the actor acknowledged that prayers made on the hallowed grounds of Mecca are answered by God.
In addition, Jigan claimed that Saudi Arabia has imposed a ban on Nigerians from traveling to Mecca. His video surfaced online just days after the conclusion of the Ramadan fasting period.
For context, Mecca is regarded as Islam’s holiest city. It lies in a desert valley in western Saudi Arabia and is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad as well as the origin of the Islamic faith. The city is accessible only to Muslims, with millions traveling there annually for the Hajj pilgrimage.
