How This New Character On Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage Could Spell Trouble And Shake Up The Season 1 Finale

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is part of the universe which began on The Big Bang Theory. That sitcom was extremely successful, lasting an impressive 12 seasons. Young Sheldon was the first spin-off, which followed the childhood of Sheldon Cooper, who Jim Parsons played in the original series. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage follows Sheldon’s brother Georgie, a character introduced in that spin-off.

As the title would suggest, this particular marriage between Georgie and Mandy might not end “till death do us part.” This has caused a lot of speculation among fans as to how, if, and when the marriage will end. With news of a new character being introduced in the two-part season finale, this speculation is brewing even more.

Actor Christopher Gorham Will Play A Romantic Partner From Mandy’s Past Who Is Also Her Boss

Fans of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage have been taking in the exciting twists and turns this new series has to offer. One of the biggest turns to date will be the introduction of a new character. The character, Scott, will be played by actor Christopher Gorham. Scott is not only Mandy’s new boss, but he is someone with whom she was previously romanticly involved.

Scott will appear in a two-part season finale as a guest star. However, there is plenty of speculation that he will be given a permanent spot on the show as either a recurring character or part of the main cast. The speculation is especially strong given his role as Mandy’s new boss. Plus, the fact that he had a past with Mandy further causes fans to worry if he will come between her and Georgie.

Another show Christopher guest starred on was Accused. In the episode, Christopher played the role of Jason Knight, who frames his wife for a crime when she seeks a divorce. When speaking to TVBrittanyF, the actor talked about his role on the show and how he became involved.

“I liked the team behind the show,” he said when asked why he wanted to play a character so different from himself. “The director, Milan Cheylov, is an old friend of mine from the Odyssey 5 and Jake 2.0 days. Honestly, the stuff that I had to do in this episode is not easy. There’s one particularly upsetting scene. And so I felt like I was going to be in good hands, and it was going to be a safe environment with people that wanted it to be really good and not just salacious. So that’s why I was intrigued by it.”

As with any good actor, Christopher is skilled at portraying characters that are very unlike himself. In fact, a lot of these characters aren’t likeable in any way. However, he said that there is a way to make them intriguing enough for the audience to want to watch them anyway.

“The acting job is the same no matter what type of character you’re playing,” he began. “It’s getting under the hood and finding the empathy for that person—understanding why they do what they do, and then being able to portray it in an honest way. For [Jason in Accused], the key really was in the upsetting scene, when he comes in drunk and he talks. The thing that he’s trying to seduce her with is that he just made another million dollars. That’s where his power is.”

Christopher continued, “His power is all wrapped up in money. And so all of the decisions in his life have come from trying to amass as much money and therefore power as he can. Because for whatever reason, that’s what he’s learned is the way to success and happiness. And unfortunately, he’s being taught in this episode that it’s not true. That it certainly doesn’t bring you happiness, nor love.”

In one scene, it is revealed that Jason wasn’t always a bad guy. However, Christopher seemed to disagree with that statement, displaying a clear understanding of his character. “You can see where, as a young guy, he’s exciting, he’s handsome, he’s ambitious, he’s charismatic,” Christopher began. “Even then he was using his power to manipulate her—and she admits [that] it worked. [She] liked him. It was attractive. But ten years into that marriage, that wears off because he doesn’t have anything else to offer. All he spends his energy on is becoming wealthy and powerful. And he wants his beautiful wife in place, and he wants his perfect child in place because it helps him at work. It makes him look good.”

He continued, “And 100 percent for sure, if they were to stay together—ten years down the line, he would absolutely divorce her and find a younger wife. Because then that’s what he would need. He’s broken.”

Emily Osment Was Very Excited When She Heard About The Young Sheldon Spin-Off

The actress who plays Mandy, Emily Osment, also appeared in Young Sheldon. She spoke with the Los Angeles Times recently and shared her excitement when she found out there would be yet another spin-off.

“I screamed,” she said. “We were at the season seven wrap party for Young Sheldon and Steve Holland, one of our executive producers and creators, came out of the elevator and I cornered him. He told me the title and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s amazing.’ I love the potential disaster element that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage gives you. It’s perfect. I can’t think of a better title.”

When asked if she has changed the way she approached playing the character, Emily pointed out the different ways each show is filmed. “We have Big Bang and then Young Sheldon and then Georgie & Mandy, and I’m pretty sure it’s one of the first shows in television history to go from multi-cam to single-cam and back to multi-cam,” she said. “I have experience in single-cam and multi-cam but I think the most jarring thing for us was watching Montana [Jordan, who plays Georgie] on Tuesday nights. He’d never done a live audience show before, but you should see when he walks out to greet the audience. He comes alive. It’s awesome.”

Emily also shared an episode from this season which has stood out to her. “I think Mandy and I share this. We’re both very stubborn, and she sees an opportunity to have autonomy in her career and in her life, and she jumps at it,” she said. “She convinces Georgie to give her a loan [to sell diet products] but she realizes she doesn’t really know how to talk to people. Georgie walks in with his effervescent Southern charm and within four minutes, he’s selling her product for her but she’s too stubborn to see that that’s wonderful that he can help her. It’s one of my favorite episodes this season.”

And while Emily has dabbled in music off-screen, she hasn’t brought that into this current sitcom. However, she said that it’s still a possibility she hasn’t yet ruled out. “I think we have to have Rachel Bay Jones sing first since she’s got the Tony [for Dear Evan Hansen] but we’re a very musical bunch,” she said. “Last year was a big year. I released three new Bluebiird songs. Bluebiird is my moniker for music. I started on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. I got married as well [to Jack Anthony in October 2024] and now I’m separated. It’s been a very long, large year for Emily.”

An Actor From Young Sheldon Also Guest Starred And Reprised His Role In An Episode

Lance Barber played George Cooper, Sr. on Young Sheldon, and there were many who believed his character’s fate would be cut short, given how it had been referenced on The Big Bang Theory. However, this turned out to not be true, because Lance stayed on the series until it ended. He also reprised his role as Georgie’s dad in an episode of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

News of Lance’s guest spot was confirmed by the show’s producers at a press conference on the set of Georgie & Mandy. It was revealed that the character would visit Georgie in a dream sequence. Series creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre’s own experience inspired the episode. Chuck has been visited by his own father in a dream after his passing.

The show’s executive producer Steve Holland spoke to TV Insider about Lance’s return to this particular character. He started by explaining why the future for Lance’s character was wide open. “On Young Sheldon, the future for Sheldon [Iain Armitage] was written,” Steve began. “Here, the future is mostly unwritten except for Georgie [Montana Jordan] a little bit. But everyone else’s is unwritten.”

He added, “We also have a great way to keep telling the story of those characters from Young Sheldon. It’s a great way to keep bringing back Annie Potts [Connie AKA Meemaw] and Zoe Perry [Mary] and see how characters change, especially Mary from being the Mary of Young Sheldon into the Mary [Laurie Metcalf] we see on Big Bang.”

And while the introduction of Scott has some questioning what this will do to Georgie and Mandy’s marriage, Steve gave an interesting, yet ambiguous take on their future. TV Insider suggested that while the couple might have future marriages, it doesn’t necesarily mean they won’t end up together. “It does not mean that,” Steve said coyly. “Absolutely. You’re right.”

Steve also talked about what other characters from Young Sheldon audiences might see on Georgie & Mandy. “We’ve had Craig T. Nelson [on as Frank]. It’s been great fun to bring on the rest of the [Young Sheldon] family. I love all those actors,” he said. “I don’t know that we’ll do ‘flash-forwards’ as much [as flashbacks]. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is definitely a spin-off and lives in this world. We are hoping to carve out its own little territory of this world. It’s a different show than Big Bang. The show is more akin to Young Sheldon.”
