Drake’s legal team has responded to Universal Music Group’s threat for him to be “careful” what he wishes for after a judge ruled in favor of his discovery request.
Drake and his legal team are allowed access to other UMG artists’ contracts, but UMG says that his contract will also be on the table.
“UMG’s latest statement is a desperate attempt to spin the narrative and deflect from the truth: Drake is holding the largest music conglomerate in the world accountable for its actions and doing so without fear,” the statement reads.
The statement continued, “We dismissed the Texas discovery action because discovery will now proceed in New York. That’s not retreat, that’s victory. UMG dismissed its first amendment petition in Texas because it has no claim, that’s losing. And UMG knows the case against it is only getting stronger.”
Drake is suing UMG for defamation and recently amended his lawsuit, arguing that by promoting Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime performance and his Grammy wins, that they defamed him further as Kendrick’s “Not Like Us” accuses him of being a p*dophile.
“Drake welcomes discovery and has nothing to hide. It’s not Drake who should worry; it’s UMG’s current leadership. We look forward to hearing from Lucian Grainge, John Janick, and UMG employees under oath,” the statement continues.
