The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully busted a criminal armoury and recovered several firearms in the Ikot Ekpene local government area. The operation, led by police operatives, resulted in the arrest of 72-year-old Monday Maurice Okoko.
The police recovered a significant cache of firearms, including: One locally made revolver pistol, one cut-to-size locally made pistol, one single-barrel locally fabricated gun, one LAR locally fabricated gun, five dane guns, gunpowder and borries ammunition.
This was confirmed in a statement signed and released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Uyo, the state capital.
She explained that a joint operation led by the operatives of the command resulted in the arrest of Okoko.
The police are currently conducting a preliminary investigation to identify and apprehend other members of the gang believed to be using the arms to terrorize the state.
The operation highlights the police’s commitment to tackling insecurity and ensuring public safety in Akwa Ibom State.
