2026 poll: Osun NNPP chairman urges voters to reject Adeleke
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, condemned the burning of the Ilesa High Court 2 building by yet-to-be identified hoodlums, describing the arson as “an unjustifiable attack on the state judiciary”.
The Guardian, however, gathered that the incident, which occurred overnight, led to the destruction of the court’s sensitive documents and exhibits, with the entire building largely razed.
Though the state fire service was mobilised to the scene, the havoc had already been done by the time of their arrival.
A statement by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, quoted the governor as having condemned the incident, just as he ordered a thorough investigation and beefed upsecurity across all court premises in the state.
“Thorough investigation must be conducted by the security agencies to apprehend the suspects and ensure they face the consequences of their actions. I further direct security agencies to beef up surveillance across the various court buildings.
“Additionally, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice is to join hands with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure for the immediate rehabilitation of the burnt-down building,” the statement noted.
Adeleke, who described the attack as a threat to democracy, said the judiciary remains the stabiliser and critical arbiter of the democratic process, urging support rather than attack on the judiciary.
MEANWHILE, against the backdrop ofthe 2026 gubernatorial poll in the state, Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the state, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, yesterday, charged eligible voters to reject the incumbent governor to restore effective governance.
Odeyemi said that for the state to reclaim its rightful position among the comity of states, there is a critical need to enthrone a responsive and efficient leadership through a credible democratic process devoid of electoral vices.
In a statement made available to journalists in Osogbo, Odeyemi, who alleged that Adeleke is surrounded by bootlickers that are not genuinely committed to socio-economic growth of the state, said “the present pitiable condition of Osun should be a source of concern to every indigene.”
According to him, some of the governor’s aides who are ready to work were not put in the right places where their contributions will be meaningful so as not to outshine their principal.
