About 24 hours after the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Abia State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, announced the expulsion of Adolphus Wabara from the party, a group, Frontiers for Change and Progress (FCP), described the act as a joke taken too far.
In a statement, the FCP’s National Coordinator, Mr. Emeka Yellow Ikpegbu, dismissed the expulsion of Wabara, who was a former Senate President and serving Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), as “a futile hatchet job by desperate political hirelings with a seared conscience.”
The Abia PDP SWC led by Elder Abraham Amah, while announcing Wabara’s expulsion to journalists during a meeting at its Umuahia Head Office, cited alleged anti-party activity, urging the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) to quickly appoint an acting BoT chairman in his place.
The group recalled that the Amah-led SWC had recently suspended the BoT Chairman (Wabara) for his alleged complimentary remarks on Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) in October 2023, canvassing for his re-election in 2027.
The group condemned the Amah-led SWC for the purported expulsion, asserting: “It does not hold water because Amah and his group lack the legitimacy to expel or even suspend the BoT chairman.”
The FCP argued that there is a pending court injunction restraining Amah and his group from taking any action against Wabara and that the purported expulsion was in violation of the court order.
