Supporters of Rivers State Governor under the aegis of National Supreme Council for Sim Worldwide have vowed that the governor cannot be impeached, stating that he has not also violated any law to warrant such a call.
The group has therefore, challenged the Tony Okocha-led All Progressives Congress (APC) who on Monday, ordered the governor to resign or be impeached, to tell the world why the governor should be impeached.
Convener of the group, Joshua Fubara, said those calling for the governor’s impeachment should go and sleep because they are already thinking and planning for his second term re-election.
He said “it was unthinkable for anyone to call for the removal of the governor who he described as very peaceful man and a ‘messiah of Rivers State.
“How can anyone call for Governor Fubara ‘s resignation let alone impeachment. His achievements alone stand him out miles ahead of other governors. From the promotion of civil servants after 10 years to payment of pensioners, increase in workers’ salaries, etc.
“This should have been the golden era of Rivers State. Why would anybody want him to resign; is he incapacitated, or did he commit any offence? Enough of this fighting. The call for his resignation is misplaced.”
He said people should understand that ‘simplicity’ is not ‘stupidity’, and added that “If Governor Fubara had been like most other governors or some of his predecessors, Rivers State by now would be bloody or would be on fire.”
The convener explained that the governor’s invitation to the 27 lawmakers is enough sign of peaceful disposition.
“Fubara is not afraid of impeachment or the outcome of this crisis for himself. God will not allow him to be disgraced,” he said.
Also speaking, a member of the group, Prof Esezi Obilor Rukani, said, impeachment is not as simple as those calling for it think, warning that: “the masses will react even if the governor does not, the masses will fight if the governor does not fight”
He stated that the governor complied with the Supreme Court ruling by directing all local council chairmen to vacate their seats and hand over to heads of local government administration.
In a similar development, Fubara has been given a seven-day notice to institute legal action against the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Martins Awaewhule, and the 26 other lawmakers for lying on oath that they never defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a letter to the Governor on Monday, a lawyer, Chizy Enyi, President General of the Initiative for Transparent Strategy and Good Leadership, gave the Governor 7 days to prosecute the lawmakers.
The affected lawmakers are Martin Chike Amaewhule, Dumle Maol, Major Jack, Linda, Somiari Stewart, Franklin U. Nwabocha, Christopher K. Ofiks, and Azeru Opara.
Others are Enemi A. George, Tonye Adoki, Granville W. Tekenari, Ngbar Bernard, John Dominic Iderima, Queen Owuma Tony, Loolo Isaiah Opuende, Abbey Peter, Igwe Obey-Aforji, and Justina Emeji and Ignatius Onwuka.
Also listed are Chimezie Nwankwo, Lemchi Prince Nyevhe, Barile Nwakoh, Emilia Lucky Amadi, Nkemjika Ezekwe.

The lawyer assured the Governor that all the necessary documents relating to the commission of the crime, when, where, and date, “to enable you to prove your case beyond a reasonable doubt, are hereby attached.”
