From the outside looking in, it often seems like celebrities have it really easy. However, celebrities are often the target of criticism. For example, a UFC fighter called out Joe Rogan, Dr. Will Kirby was criticized by Big Brother stars, and Jeff Probst expressed his anger at Adam Klein. If that wasn’t enough, Joe Rogan called out Conan O’Brien, Joe’s fans criticized him, and Billy Joel judged the cast of Saturday Night Live.
After he was cast on Saturday Night Live and then quickly fired, Shane Gillis became a celebrated comedian, even though he has faced other backlashes. After becoming a huge success, Shane was left seeming like he was very embarrassed after he was called out by Louis C.K. who was right in front of him.
Shane Gillis Got Called Out By Louis C.K. For Being Greedy
In the modern media landscape, there are some celebrities who’ve managed to build extremely loyal fan followings. Those stars tend to have fans who find them entertaining and also are interested in their personal beliefs.
One example of a celebrity who is like that is Shane Gillis. Best known as a comedian, Shane has also become a very successful podcaster. On top of having his own podcast, Shane has also become part of the group of people who record podcast episodes under the name “Protect Our Parks” with Joe Rogan.
As anyone who follows Shane’s podcast career should already know, it has been extremely successful for him. However, being a podcaster also led to a mortifying moment for Shane when Louis C.K. called him out for being greedy.
In May 2022, Louis was a guest on Shane’s podcast, which is titled “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast.” The two comedians went on to have a lengthy and fascinating conversation about American Presidents that was so long that the episode had to be broken up into different parts.

Shane Gillis’ podcast, which is titled “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast,” is co-hosted by Matt McCusker. MattMcCusker.com has a fascinating bio that describes Shane’s co-host’s career this way. “I’m a comedian, writer, and proud co-host of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast.”
During the break, Shane could be seen telling Louis he was going to read some ads. Then, Shane told Louis that the rest of the podcast would be switched over so only subscribers to his Patreon account could hear the rest.
“We’re gonna read some ads. And then we’re gonna switch over to the Patreon for the last part. So join the Patreon if you want.”
When Shane said he was going to read some ads, Louis didn’t bat an eye. Instead, Louis sat back in his chair and said, “Okay.”
In September 2023, The New York Times published an article about how successful Shane Gillis had become. According to that article, “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” was the most popular podcast on Patreon, at that time, with more than 71,000 paying listeners.
However, as soon as Shane stated that they were going to switch to Patreon, Louis instantly sat forward again and engaged. Louis then proceeded to call Shane out for doing ad reads and making part of the podcast Patreon exclusive.
“Why are you making them go on Patreon? That way what? You need the money? Really? The ads and the Patreon? You’re gonna make them listen to ads and then switch to Patreon? This is like when I watch a f****** fight on DAZN, which I paid for, and there’s a f****** ad between the rounds. Hold Is it subscription or is it f****** ad? S***. There’s three ads. You don’t have to put this on Patreon.”
The obvious implication of Louis’ rant was that he felt Shane was being greedy.

Louis then went on to question Shane about how much money he would make from the rest of the podcast episode being on Patreon. Still not through, Louis offered to pay Shane $5,000 a month to keep the podcast free.
In response, Shane told Louis that he wished he would drop the topic.
I wish you would stop this.
From there, Shane went on to read some ads. Throughout reading ads, Shane made a series of comments that revealed how embarrassed he was at that moment. “This is a bit of a nightmare.” As Shane was reading the ads, Louis got up and left. It is important to note that Louis returned to continue the conversation about Presidents with Shane. While Louis was gone, Shane commented on how mortified he felt.
This is such a mistake to try to do ads at the end of this. He probably f****** hates us now. We look like fools. You have no idea.
Shane Gillis Revealed That Louis C.K. Insisted On Making Part Three Of Their Podcast Free
When Louis C.K. called Shane Gillis out for making part three of their podcast Patreon exclusive, he made his opinion obvious. Louis made it very clear during the podcast recording that he wanted part three of their conversation to be free.

Part two of Shane and Louis’ podcast episode was uploaded on YouTube on May 4th, 2022. The following day, on May 5th, 2022, Shane posted on X/Twitter with the following update on part three of his podcast episode with Louis.
