Lady Gaga Reveals If She'd Ever Join The 'Real Housewives' Franchise

Lady Gaga is one of the biggest stars in the music world. From her hit albums and eye-catching videos to her sold-out tours, she has earned her way to the top. Before she became a big star, however, Gaga went to great lengths to be noticed. She even ventured into the world of reality television when she appeared in an episode of The Hills in 2008.

Gaga even collaborated with Andy Cohen and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on her “G.U.Y.” music video. However, even though she has shown love to the reality world in the past, Gaga isn’t sure about joining that world in the future. During a recent interview to promote her upcoming album “Mayhem,” Gaga was asked about joining The Real Housewives franchise, and she was less than enthusiastic.

Lady Gaga Said She Would Absolutely Not Join The Real Housewives Cast

Lady Gaga has experience in the world of reality television. She previously made a cameo in an episode of The Hills in 2008. Gaga appeared in Episode 5 of Season 4, where she performed at a small party during the early stages of her career. Her debut album, “The Fame,” was released that same year and her breakout hit, “Just Dance,” was climbing the charts.

To promote her upcoming album “Mayhem,” Gaga sat down with Vanity Fair to take their lie detector test. Gaga was hooked up to a polygraph examiner while an administrator asked her questions. During the questioning, Gaga was asked about her experiences on reality television. She was then asked if she could see herself delving into that world again in the future.

“Speaking of reality TV, would you ever say yes to being a Real Housewife?” Gaga was asked. “No,” the singer responded. Gaga was then shown a picture from the first episode of the 10th season. The examiner then asked, “Not even after this tribute to you on Real Housewives of New York City?”

The episode, titled “Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun,” aired in April 2018 and featured the ladies at a Halloween party dressed as famous women. Dorinda Medley dressing as Lady Gaga, while Tinsley Mortimer dressed as Madonna, Sonja Morgan arrived as Lucille Ball and Ramona Singer paid tribute to Britney Spears.

Despite the respect and admiration she received from the housewives, it didn’t seem to sway Gaga in the reality show direction. “That would make me feel scared, to like, be on reality TV,” Gaga said. “This makes me feel scared.”

Dorinda brought the iconic Lady Gaga dress back while speaking to The Daily Dish in October 2024. During the chat, she said, “The famous bubble dress lives on forever.” Gaga had originally worn the dress during her debut tour in 2009. The outfit was parodied in an episode of Saturday Night Live where Gaga and Andy Samberg both wore matching versions of the dress for a skit.

“Literally, that wasn’t a costume,” Dorinda said. “That was me going to Bloomingdales, getting a Spanx, and having [an SNL costume designer] sew plastic balls all over it, which, by the way, all fell by the end of the night. I was pretty much naked by the end of that scene. Not that I cared … between the drinks, the wigs, and the bubbles falling off, I was past worrying about that.”

Lady Gaga released her album “ARTPOP” in 2013 and while it didn’t perform as well as her previous albums, the era was filled with plenty of memorable moments. One of which came in 2014, when Gaga released the music video for the album’s final single, “G.U.Y.” In the video, Gaga is seen performing the song at Hearst Castle while Lisa Vanderpump, Yolanda Foster, Carlton Gebbia and Kyle and Kim Richards appear in the background. In addition to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast, Andy Cohen appears in the clip as well, playing God as he sings the song in the sky.

When Gaga called into Watch What Happens Live that same year, she explained to Andy why she wanted him to be in the video.

“Well, in the story, where I am beginning as a Phoenix, rising from the ashes, I go to the Hearst Castle in order to be brought back to life,” Gaga explained. “As the people from Venus dump me into the Neptune pool, I am snapped back into reality by reality television! We wanted you to play Zeus, or God in the sky, because I feel as though reality TV and reality media really run our lives. It’s really an image of how I think pop culture is today. You are God, obviously.”

Gaga also told Andy that working with the housewives was both a shocking and enjoyable part of the production. “I was actually surprised!” she said. “We were waiting for some real eye tear-outs with some press-ons, but that didn’t happen.” Andy opened up to The Daily Dish and said that he was overwhelmed by the experience. “Being directed by Gaga was completely surreal,” he said. “We were singing the words to her song together. She was giving me attitude, direction: ‘Be sexy! Be strong!'”

Kyle Richards shared some behind-the-scenes details about working with the superstar. “She went through the wardrobe that she wanted Lisa and me to wear,” Kyle said. “She kept saying she wanted us to feel beautiful. She had a very specific idea of how she wanted us to look. She was so sweet, thoughtful and engaging. The first day of shooting was supposed to be a few hours but ended up being more like 12 because she is such a perfectionist.”

Lisa Vanderpump Originally Turned Down The Offer To Be In Lady Gaga’s Music Video

Following the release of the “G.U.Y.” video, Kyle Richards and Lisa Vanderpump spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about working with Lady Gaga on the video. According to Kyle, she wasn’t contacted by Gaga’s team, but the Bravo network. “Bravo contacted me and said you’ve been asked to be in a video,” Kyle said. “We had to sign a nondisclosure agreement before we found out who it was. I was so curious, and then when I saw [it], I was completely blown away.”

Lisa said that, initially, she wasn’t so excited about being in a music video.

“I had a pretty rough time on Housewives this year to the point that when they came to me and asked me to do it, I said: ‘Let the others do it. I’m not having a good time with the other women,'” she recalled. “Then they said, ‘It’s Lady Gaga.’ I have a bit of a history with her because she’s been supportive of Vanderpump Rules, she’s even tweeted about it, and that’s a big deal when you’ve got 40 million followers.”

Still, Lisa said that she wasn’t looking forward to spending an entire day on set with her castmates. She even went so far as to speak to Andy Cohen about it. However, she soon received an unexpected surprise that changed her mind.

Lisa continued, “But I spoke to Andy [Cohen] and said, ‘I don’t feel up to spending the day with these other women — they’re just too mean and b*****.’ Next day, the phone rings, and a voice says, ‘Hi Lisa, it’s Lady Gaga,’ and I said, ‘Right, and I’m Winston Churchill.’ Suddenly, Andy was in the background going, ‘Lady Vanderpump meet Lady Gaga.’ I said I’d do it, but on one condition. I want backup. I want the Giggster (Giggy, her trademark Pomeranian). She said, ‘I’d love to have the Giggster in it.'”

And despite Gaga’s current reservations about being on reality television, Kyle and Lisa said she was definitely a fan of Bravo. “We talked a lot about the show, and as we talked, I was thinking, ‘I can’t believe she watches our show and knows all about my life,'” Kyle remembered. “There was one scene in the video where it was just Lady Gaga and me, and she looked back and said something like, ‘This is just like what happened in that scene with [Richards’ husband] Mauricio.'”

Lisa said, “She’s very Bravo-aware. She’s right in the center of pop culture, and Housewives is very much of the culture. I think you’d be surprised how many people watch it; people come up to me that I think would never watch our hot mess. I think the first lady even said she watches it.”
