Joe Rogan Revealed His Thoughts On Hit TV Show 'Severance'

However, Joe isn’t just sharing his opinions on divisive political and social issues. In fact, Joe has made it clear that he is a film and television buff as well. Over the years, Joe has talked with many successful people in the entertainment world, from actors to filmmakers. One of the shows Joe has watched most recently is the hit thriller Severance. In fact, Joe let his followers know what he thought of the show, leading to mixed reactions.

Joe recently commented on the show Severance, after he finished watching the first season. He posted the following on X, “Severance is a fantastic show. Completely original and totally unpredictable. Amazing writing, directing, and acting. Just a totally unique show. I just finished season one and am on to season two on @AppleTV.”

He received lots of comments from his followers, who weren’t afraid to weigh in with their own takes. The reactions from Joe’s viewers were mixed, to say the least.

Joe credited actor and comedian Tom Green with helping his podcast become successful. The statement comes in This Is the Tom Green Documentary, currently streaming on Prime Video. Tom sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss Joe’s remark. Tom was asked whether he would want to have such a platform, especially with the “polarizing nature” of the content.

“I have made a conscious choice with my work over the last few years to attempt to not polarize my audience,” Tom said. “I’ve made polarizing work before — Freddy Got Fingered was polarizing. It wasn’t polarizing politically; it was just polarizing because it was nuts. There are people that want to see a movie that’s completely crazy, and then there are people that don’t, and that’s polarizing.”

Tom said that his interest in creating as little polarization as possible came when he made his return to stand-up comedy. “When I started doing stand-up again 20 years ago, I found a new balance for that where I don’t really want to divide the viewers, whether it’s politically or just trying to create a broader type of comedy that everybody can have a lot of fun with,” he recalled. “Johnny Carson never talked politics. He made fun of the president, but he’d make fun of both sides of the political spectrum. I’m trying to make my show as edgy as possible, but also not just doing it in a way where half the world is suddenly left out on either side of the aisle.”

The former MTV star told the outlet that he often reflected on the days when The Tom Green Show began in 1999. “I miss those times because it was just more of an inclusive, fun environment for all people coming out to the show to feel that they could come together and have a big laugh,” Tom said. “There wasn’t this division. I’m socially conscious, and I feel very strongly about issues, but I just felt over the last few years that maybe I would like to try to take a role in this comedy landscape where I’m trying to bring people together.”

Joe Rogan Was Showered With Praise By This Actor Who Was A Guest On His Podcast

Another actor Joe has a connection with is Woody Harrelson. Woody was recently a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience and showered the host with praise. The exchange began with Joe telling Woody how big of a fan he was. “I was excited to talk to you, man,” Joe said. “I’m a big fan. God****, I’ve been watching you since Cheers, you know? It’s a long time.” Woody then told Joe that he was a big fan of his as well.

“I’m a fan of yours, too. I really am,” he said. “I’m so—I love the things you’ve done that just flipped everything on its head, you know? The people you’ve interviewed. You’ve got people genuinely up in arms, you know? Like you’re not afraid. You’re a fearless warrior, and I just—I appreciate what you do, allowing voice to people. Other people would be like, ‘You’re wrong just to interview that person.'”

“Yeah, you get a lot of that for sure, but that’s ridiculous,” Joe replied. “That’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous thinking. I don’t even understand that. I really don’t. I don’t understand how we got to a place where you’re wrong to have a conversation with someone, even if you disagree with them.”

The Joe Rogan Experience debuted in 2009 and became the top podcast for a very long time. However, Podscribe data showed that the show did recently get overthrown by The MeidasTouch Podcast. Spotify shows that Joe’s most popular interviews are with guests such as Elon Musk, Edward Snowden, Ben Shapiro and Mike Tyson. Over the years, Joe has produced more than 2,200 episodes, with some even running as long as three hours.

Woody’s own ticket to stardom came when he starred on Cheers as the bartender Woody Boyd. He appeared on the legendary series from 1985 to 1993, starting in Season 4 and up to Season 11. The role even won Woody an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Woody is currently promoting the film Last Breath.

“Your movie’s f****** great. I loved it,” Joe told the actor of Last Breath. He called the film a “nailbiter.” The new film is based on a true story of deep-sea divers who go on a mission to rescue a fellow team member. Joe continued his rave review by saying the film is “very suspenseful, very fulfilling” and added that by “the end of it, you feel super entertained.”

Woody was very thankful Joe gave such a glowing review of the film. Woody chimed in and said, “I love it. It’s so exciting that film. It’s like an action movie. I mean, it really is like as nailbiter as any action movie I’ve seen. I love it.”

Joe and Woody also bonded over the fact that they both live in Austin, Texas. The two even talked about hanging out sometimes outside the show. “I’m determined. You and I are gonna have to hang out sometime socially,” Woody told Joe. The host then replied, “Let’s do it. I would love to do that. Let’s do it.” “Yeah? Woody said. “OK, well, don’t feel just like you’re back against the wall.” “No, I love you man, come on,” Joe told him. “I’ll hang out with you anytime.”

‘Severance’ Creator Dan Erickson Opened Up About His Growth Following Season One

In January, the creator of Severance, Dan Erickson, spoke to Deadline about the show and the challenges it faced. Season One was coming out of a difficult time for Hollywood productions, as it followed a tough period during the COVID-19 pandemic. Things didn’t get easier, however. Unfortunately, Season Two was delayed due to the dual strikes in Hollywood during the second half of 2023.

“I wouldn’t even say that we consciously put that into the season, but I think you can’t help that it seeps in. And it certainly will seep in for people watching,” Dan told the outlet. “Whatever is going on in the world, that affects the context with which people are watching the show. It’s going to be really interesting to see how people respond at this particular time that [Season 2]’s coming out.”

One of the main things about the show which helped hook viewers was its balance between comedy and thriller. While talking to Deadline, Dan was asked what he learned from the first season that helped him during Season Two. He said that he learned how to better balance those two key components of the series.

“The relation between the character comedy component of the show and the dark science fiction thriller part of it, I always knew that those were two of the main basic pieces of it, but I didn’t always get how they fit together until I had seen it,” Dan said. “Watching the show, I was like, ‘Okay, it’s a comedy in the foreground, and then it’s a thriller in the background,’ where they’re arguing over group photos and pencil erasers, but then, as it’s happening, if you’re paying attention, there’s this dark thing brewing behind them that threatens to swallow them whole.”

He continued, “It wasn’t until every member of our creative team —our production designer and our cinematographer and our directors and our actors — had all put their stamp on it, that I figured out how it worked, and it was easier to write in that way, Season Two, but then, on the other hand, there was a lot more pressure, because all of a sudden we had this thing that we weren’t sure was going to be as widespread of a hit as it was. There was the pressure of, can you replicate that? And can you do it again? So it was harder and easier at the same time.”
