Sadly, however, there have also been Big Brother controversies, like winners that fans think were the worst and even production issues.

Some of the most surprising Big Brother scandals have been when players had their criminal records exposed. For example, Janelle Pierzina, who once spoke out about Sean “Diddy” Combs, had her fans learn that she has a criminal record. However, Janelle’s arrests are in the distant past, unlike a former Big Brother winner who was recently arrested for shoplifting.

Former Big Brother Winner Mike “Boogie” Malin Breitner Has Been Arrested For Shoplifting

Longtime fans may be wondering why this article is referring to the Big Brother 7 winner as Mike Malin Breitner. After all, he was always known as Mike “Boogie” Malin during his years competing on Big Brother. However, it appears that Mike has legally changed his name, which this article will refer to later.

In 2006, Mike seemed to be on top of the world after he won Big Brother 7. Known as half of the beloved Big Brother “Chilltown” alliance, Mike also seemed to have tremendous fun with his top ally, Dr. Will Kirby. Sadly for Mike, however, his life has changed dramatically since that public triumph.

Almost two decades after he won Big Brother 7, Mike was arrested for shoplifting in March 2025.

In March 2025, MyBurbank.com listed the police log that revealed that the Big Brother winner was listed as Mike Malin Breitner. That appears to indicate that Mike legally changed his name, as that is what he is identified as by the Burbank police.

According to TMZ’s report, the police were called on Mike after an alleged incident at a CVS Pharmacy.

According to Famous Birthdays, Mike Malin Breitner was born in Concord, New Hampshire on July 16th, 1970. That means that, as of March 2025, Mike would be 54 years old.

The outlet reports that Mike allegedly left the CVS Pharmacy with items that he hadn’t paid for. Mike reportedly was instructed to go back inside the store to pay for the items. However, Mike allegedly walked back into the store and placed the items on the ground instead of paying for them.

TMZ’s report states that it is common for shoplifters to go to more than one store from the same brand. As a result, the police were sent to a second CVS Pharmacy location.

When the police arrived at the second location, they allegedly found Mike’s car running with its hazard lights on. Mike then allegedly approached the police and he was arrested for shoplifting.

TMZ reports that a witness claims they saw Mike leave the second CVS Pharmacy with two bottles of alcohol and energy drinks that he didn’t pay for. Mike was then booked, taken into custody, and transported to jail.

Finally, the outlet reports that a CVS Pharmacy employee signed off on a citizen’s arrest form in connection with the incidents involving Mike.

Former Big Brother Winner Mike “Boogie” Malin Breitner Has A Lengthy History Of Legal Trouble

Prior to March 2025, the most notable legal trouble that Mike “Boogie” Malin Breitner got himself into involved his former friend and ally. After teaming up with him during Big Brother 2 and Big Brother 7, Mike was found guilty of harassing Dr. Will Kirby.

As a June 2021 Us Weekly article reveals, Mike was found guilty of stalking Dr. Will. After Mike initially was arrested as a result of his treatment of Dr. Will, he pleaded not guilty. However, he later changed his plea to no contest and was found guilty without a court trial.

In June 2021, Screen Rant reported that the Big Brother legend Janelle Pierzina had also accused Mike “Boogie” Malin Breitner of harassing her. According to Janelle, she was even forced to change her phone number because Mike wouldn’t stop messaging her.

According to reports, Mike began harassing Dr. Will when his former “Chilltown” refused to team up a third time. Mike and Dr. Will had the chance to compete as a pair during a season of The Amazing Race. When Dr. Will refused to go on the show, Mike reportedly began harassing him and uttering threats because of the missed opportunity. Members of Dr. Will’s family also were harassed by Mike.

In relation to the Dr. Will incident, Mike was sentenced to two years probation, 160 hours of community service, and 30 days in a treatment program. Mike was also ordered to pay a $70 fine, refrain from owning firearms, and submit his DNA to a database.

Mike also took a massive financial hit as he was ordered to pay Dr. Will $23,219 plus 10% interest. Mike was also ordered to pay Dr. Will’s attorney $20,745.

Unfortunately for Mike, he later had his probation revoked in September 2022. According to a TMZ report at that time, Mike failed to appear in court, so a bench warrant for his arrest was issued.

Us Weekly’s aforementioned article revealed that Mike had also been arrested in November 2011 for DUI. The same article also stated that in 2011, Mike was sued for embezzlement, which resulted in him being ordered to pay $800,000 to a former business partner. In September 2022, a different Us Weekly article revealed that Mike had filed for bankruptcy.
