A group, the North East Unity Forum (NEUF), has called on the federal government to handle the proposed tax reform discourse diplomatically so as to give Northern Nigeria sense of belonging and allay their fears as regards the Bill.
The group which berated the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to the President, Mr Sunday Dare, for attacking the governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed, over his stance on the tax reform, stated that Mohammed like Dare is also in a better position to comment, advise and discuss matters of public concern particularly as it concerns the interest of his region.
In a signed press release made available to Blueprint in Abuja by Comrade Yusuf Umar, its Chairman, the group stated that instead of criticising Mohammed for ventilating his views, the President’ spokesman should spend time to advise the president on its policies and how to better the lives of the citizenry.
The statement reads further: “Rather than threats, the Spokesman should advise the current administration on the need to address socio-economic challenges in the country.
“The masses of Bauchi state are well pleased with their governor and will forever be ready to defend his mandate.”
