The 2024 season was a stellar one for Scottie Scheffler. The American golfer recorded nine victories and was once again named as the PGA Tour Player of the Year. However, there was one dark moment for him this year. In May, he was shockingly arrested during the PGA Championship. The World No.1 had admitted that he was ‘freaking out’ after this arrest.
On Monday, the PGA Tour released a special ‘Scottie 24’ documentary, which highlighted the year of Scheffler. In this, he spoke about his arrest after arriving at the Valhalla course for the second round of the major championship.
He was trying to drive around the scene of a fatal crash. The 28-year-old was arrested and charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.
Scheffler did return to the field later on and competed in the second round. A few weeks later, all charges against him were dropped.
Last week before The Showdown event in Las Vegas, Scheffler hilariously reflected back on this moment. However, it was a serious moment in May. The golfer claimed he had no idea how he ended up in a jail cell.
First of all, I was freaking out because I somehow went from driving into the golf course to a jail cell and I still don’t really know how that happened. When I was in jail, I just tried to focus on my breathing and did some stretching.

Scheffler went on to shoot 5-under 66 in the second round after his arrest. His score of 73 in the third round derailed his chances of winning again. He went on to finish the event 13-under while being tied for eighth with Billy Horschel and Justin Thomas.

After winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Scottie Scheffler was aiming to make history at The Players Championship. He entered the event as the defending champion and seemed to be in contention once again. However, he suffered a neck injury in the second round which caused severe pain. His caddie Ted Scott thought he would withdraw from the tournament.
Scheffler injured his neck on the third hole on Friday. He would take seen receiving treatment on the course between the holes. Despite this massive problem, Scheffler continued to soldier on.
Later that night, his caddie Scott called his wife and told he would be coming home soon. However, that did not turn out to be the case. The World No.1 continued to take part in the event.
I honestly didn’t know how he could play golf. I mean, he couldn’t turn his head 2 degrees to the right.

Scheffler went on to make an incredible comeback in the final two rounds. His score of 8-under 64 saw him finish one shot ahead of Wyndham Clark. This made Scheffler the first player to go back-to-back at the Players Championship.
At his next start at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, he finished one shot behind winner Stephan Jaeger. Had he won that event, Scheffler could have won on five consecutive PGA Tour starts as he went on to win the Masters and the RBC Heritage Open.
