The 2025 Daytona 500 will mark the return of former NASCAR racer Mike Wallace. The brother of Kenny Wallace and Rusty Wallace, will try to qualify for the event at the age of 65 with MBM Motorsports. He will become the second oldest racer in the history of the sport behind Mike Thompson (68) if he is able get into the starting lineup.
Owing to Mike Wallace age, the announcement got a mixed set of reactions. Yahoo Sports reporter Nick Bromberg, who is known for his critical takes on things, wasn’t a fan on the announcement and cautioned NASCAR that they shouldn’t directly let someone who hasn’t racer since 2020, to start in the biggest race of the sport.
I’m sure this will be controversial, but a 65-year-old who hasn’t competed in a Cup Series race or a top-3 series NASCAR race on an oval since 2015 and last raced in a top-3 series NASCAR race overall in 2020 probably shouldn’t get automatic approval to attempt the Daytona 500.
Nick Bromberg wrote on X.
This didn’t sit well with, Mike’s brother Kenny Wallace. Being someone pretty open on social media, Wallace didn’t hold back and called out Bromberg for his negativity.

Jeff Gordon has also openly called out the reporter in the past
It’s not the first time Nick Bromberg has gotten in the firing range of NASCAR racers. In 2018, former Cup champion and Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon, called out the reporter for his negativity. He was taken aback by the comments the reporter made about the NASCAR Race hub show.

The NASCAR fans also seem to share a similar feeling about the reporter. Many have called out Bromberg for his comments in the past and now the latest comments about Mike Wallace’s NASCAR return at Daytona.
While his criticism of Wallace is little extreme, he does have a point about the age of the veteran racer and his latest experience. But it seems the veteran has worked hard enough to get himself ready for the race and is ready to prove his doubters wrong.
