The Director General of the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA), Barrister Zakary Allumaga, has confirmed that humanitarian disasters had reduced drastically in the state compared to previous years.’
He said this Friday in Lafia while briefing journalists on the success story so far in the agency, stressing that the drastic reduction of disaster in the state was a good mark, “particularly in the area of humanitarian crises when you find one tribe against another or one community against another.”
He said so far the Ministry of Humanitarian Services had distributed food items to some affected communities while NASEMA would distribute building materials to 17 communities across five local government areas affected by the disaster.
According to him, what is currently happening in Afo land is no longer a portable issue and should not be one that any person should condone at all where one community, the same tribe, the same brothers and sisters fighting themselves.
“I am particular in this case referring to the crisis in Afo land, that’s the crisis in Udege, it is unfortunate that some people killed others, houses were burnt and there was retaliation,” he said.
He noted that 50 per cent of the crises was mere criminality and called on the people of Afo land to continue to be in peace with one another so that development can thrive.
The DG also recalled the Omboste saga in the state, saying that the Omboste group had suffered very well as they still had houses everywhere they could not reclaim.
He, however, cautioned the parties in the Afo crisis to learn from the Omboste crisis and take the option of peace for the benefit of all.
