The Chief Medical Director of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Makurdi, Dr. Stephen Hwande, on Friday commended the Benue state governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for allocating over ₦82 billion to the health sector in the 2025 budget, saying it “will assist significantly in transformations and improvements of health care delivery in the state.”
Dr. Hwande also announced the successful implementation of an IVF programme, with two successful deliveries that had produced three children so far.
Briefing newsmen at the Muhammadu Buhari Mother and Child Hospital an annex of the hospital, Dr. Hwande said to support low-income patients, Governor Alia had subsidised the IVF programme, which involved an eight-stage process.
He disclosed further that the hospital in addition “will soon begin offering microscopic and endoscopic surgeries,” noting that a cancer project was also set to commence next week in the hospital.
Hwande said the hospital was benefiting greatly from the investment of the ₦82 billion allocated by the governor to the health sector.
He commended the governor for the clearance of over N800 million allowances owed to BSUTH staff by the previous administration, noting that the hospital’s salary structure had also been standardised to match those of other hospitals nationwide.
“Infrastructure development is also underway, with the VIP section of the hospital under construction and a N1.6 billion water project aimed at solving the hospital’s water problems.
“Certified pensioners will also benefit from free medical services, including consultations and bed fees, starting this 2025.”
