Zak Brown goes against Lando Norris, claims Max Verstappen can win with third-fastest F1 car

Max Verstappen defied all odds and won the 2024 Drivers’ Championship with a struggling chassis from Red Bull. Lando Norris, despite having the courtesy of the fastest chassis on the grid was no match to Verstappen’s master class. Hence, the 27-year-old had recently claimed that he would’ve won the championship much earlier with the Briton’s chassis. Zak Brown responded to these claims uncertainly and downplayed Norris’s performances.

Max Verstappen had recently taken a hilarious jibe at Zak Brown‘s past comments after winning the fourth world championship. The Dutchman claimed that he won the championship without the fastest chassis and silenced Brown. Upon this, the Englishman added that the 27-year-old could extract a bit more performance from a car not capable of winning races. However, Verstappen couldn’t win from the car that was ’15th’ on the grid, overseeing the latter’s recent win at the Brazilian GP from P17.

If Max was in a car that’s not capable of winning, he’ll get a little bit more out of it because of how awesome he is. But he’s not going to take a car that’s 15th and win in it.

Brown furthered his claim and took an indirect jibe at Lando Norris for being unable to win the championship with the fastest car. The 53-year-old reckoned that Verstappen was capable of winning with the third-fastest chassis on the grid. However, for a driver to achieve this, they needed the relevant skill alongside a decent challenger capable of scoring well.

He might be able to take a car that’s third quickest and win it. But you’ve got to have the car, then you also have to have the driver.

Zak Brown took a BRUTAL jibe at Sergio Perez amidst disastrous run

While Max Verstappen has kept up with performances throughout the season, Sergio Perez faces massive difficulty in performing well. The Mexican driver became the center of massive rumors of being axed by the coming season due to such performances. Zak Brown recalled this fact and highlighted the massive difference between Perez and Verstappen. Brown labeled the 34-year-old as a ‘not so great driver’ due to declining performances this season.

That’s what Max has shown: great driver, great car. I think when you see great car, not as great driver, Sergio [Perez] – who is a very good racing driver, he’s won grands prix, but clearly not at Max’s level – you can see the difference.

Zak Brown noted

Perez’s degrading performances caused Red Bull to lose the constructors’ championship lead to McLaren. The 2024 season still has two races pending with Milton Keynes desperately falling behind the pack. Hence, the Mexican driver must improve performance immediately to race alongside Verstappen in the coming seasons.
