Why Did Tanner Frick Leave The Voice?

Under a veil of mystery, popular contestant Tanner Frick abruptly left The Voice on Monday (November 11) — and no one seems to know why.

Tanner enraptured the judges during the “Blind Auditions” phase of The Voice.

On October 2, the reality TV competition show’s YouTube channel featured Tanner’s audition, in a video entitled “Coaches Battle Over Tanner Frick’s Four-Chair-Turn Performance.”

A “Four-Chair-Turn,” as NBC explains it, is specific to The Voice, and occurs during a “blind audition” when all four judges “turn their chairs.”

Any “chair turn” is a part of the Blind Auditions process, and the network detailed chair turns in an explanation of how the show works:

“During the Blind Auditions, the decisions the Coaches make are based solely on voice and not looks, as the coaches build their teams of 14 Artists. The Coaches hear the Artists perform without getting to see them, thanks to rotating chairs. If a Coach is impressed by the Artist’s voice, they push a button to select the Artist for their team.

“At this point, the Coach’s chair will swivel so that they can face the Artist they selected. If more than one Coach pushes the button, the power then shifts to the Artists to choose which Coach they want to work with. If no one pushes their button, the Artist is eliminated from the competition.”

In other words, hopeful contestants need at least one judge to turn their chair to advance in the competition — and Tanner had his pick of all four judges.

Tanner performed former The Voice Season 6 contestant and current country superstar Morgan Wallen’s “Thought You Should Know” in the clip.

One user remarked that Tanner had “that winner vibe,” and another said:

It appeared that The Voice fans and the judges learned of Tanner’s exit at the same time, during Monday night’s episode.

Per People, host Carson Daly shocked judge Michael Bublé with the news:

“Michael, Tanner [Frick] left the competition after rehearsals. You still have Cameron [Wright] and Sloane [Simon].”

Michael had “stolen” Tanner from Reba’s team, and some fans speculated that was the reason he left.

Consequently, Michael’s team was smaller heading into the 3-Way Knockouts due to Tanner’s sudden absence.

Sorting YouTube comments by “most recent” on the video above revealed myriad users asking the same question: Why did Tanner Frick leave The Voice so suddenly?

Tanner himself shared a cryptic post on Instagram hours before Monday’s episode of The Voice aired, along with a demonstration of his massive talent in the form of a song:

In the comments, fans of The Voice expressed their shock and dismay.

One implored Tanner to not “give up,” and another person commented: “You could have WON! Why did you leave??😔”

Another person hinted at a conflict involving judge Reba McEntire and Tanner’s “unwanted” caption, claiming to own radio stations and writing:

“You sir have such incredible talent. I own country radio stations in Southwest Virginia and will 100% add your music to rotation. I am a lifelong Reba fan but I disagree with her choice, however, it’s very clear you’re wanted.

“I hope you find success, because you absolutely gave have the talent! Again, feel free to reach out if and when you have music[.]”

Commenters unanimously felt that Tanner ought to have stayed and that he had a shot at winning, and several expressed disappointment at missing what would have been his performance last night.

Tanner’s caption alongside the post only intensified questions about exactly why he left The Voice: “Ain’t nobody want me anyway …”

Tanner, your Instagram comments would strongly beg to differ.
