WATCH: Iwobi hits assist; Simon, Olawoyin on target; Onumonu shines in thriller with Nnadozie in France

Several Nigerian footballers were in action for their different clubs in Europe at the weekend with Soccernet.ng highlighting the most eye-catching performances.

England

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi provided an excellent assist for Fulham’a second goal as the Cottagers picked up a fine 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Calvin Bassey was a solid rock in defence for Fulham as the visitors kept a clean sheet at Selhurst Park, London.

Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu were both in action for Southampton in the Saints’ 2-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

France

Lens fought out a thrilling 3-2 win at home to Nantes with Nigeria international Moses Simon and compatriot Hamzat Ojediran getting on the score sheet for both teams.

Simon converted a 36th-minute penalty to cancel out an early Lens opener and assisted Nantes second midway through the second half.

However, Ojediran came off the bench to equalise for Lens – his first Ligue 1 goal – in the 86th minute before Adrien Thomasson popped up with a huge stoppage-time winner for the home team.

It was a battle between two Super Falcons stars as Chiamaka Nnadozie’s Paris FC traded tackles with Ifeoma Onumonu’s Montpellier in the French Première Ligue.

Onumonu ensured there was no clean sheet for Nnadozie as the 30-year-old forward bagged a brace to take her tally to three goals in her last two games.

However, Nnadozie had the last laugh as a Julie Dufour double propelled Paris FC to a thrilling 4-2 victory.

Spain

Kelechi Iheanacho continued his search for his first La Liga goal as Sevilla stumbled to a narrow 1-0 loss at Leganes.

The day ended on a sour note for Rasheedat Ajibade in the Primera División Femenina as her Atlético Madrid were outclassed 3-0 by champions Barcelona.

Albania

Kano-born teenager Abubakar Abdulkadir Nasir was the hero for Kukësi as his second-half strike was enough to secure a 1-0 away win at Erzeni Shijak and boost their survival chances in the 1st Division.

Turkey

Funsho Bamgboye scored the crucial second goal for Hatayspor in their exciting 3-1 Super Liga win over Gaziantep FK at the Mersin Stadyumu.

Inside the gorgeous Çaykur Didi Stadyumu in Rize, Rizespor secured a comeback 3-1 victory against Trabzonspor thanks to the key contributions of Ibrahim Olawoyin and David Akintola.

Amir Hadžiahmetović equalised for Rizespor deep in first-half stoppage time after Edin Višća had given the visitors an early lead.

However, the game turned into a Nigerian show in the second half with Olawoyin handing the hosts the lead in the 71st minute before Akintola made sure of the points ten minutes later.
