As the Black Friday shopping frenzy is upon us, law enforcement agencies, security companies and community policing forums across Tshwane will be intensifying efforts to combat potential crime.
According to police spokesperson Johan Van Dyk, operations will be conducted throughout Tshwane guided by a weekly crime analysis.
Van Dyk said police would not announce their specific locations to maintain tactical effectiveness.
“Operations are planned on a weekly basis, determined by crime analysis,” he explained.
“We cannot disclose beforehand where our operations will be executed, but residents can rest assured that we are working tirelessly to ensure their safety.”
West Sector 2 CPF, led by Johan Cloete, will maintain a visible presence in shopping malls, and at businesses in Mountain View and Hercules.
“These areas are notorious for crimes such as shoplifting and car theft on Black Friday.”
Monitor Net spokesperson JP Le Roux confirmed that all Centurion security companies have arranged additional security, visibility, and patrols.
He said top concerns include pickpocketing, cellphone theft, shoplifting, and vehicle theft.
“We are prepared to tackle potential threats, but we need the community’s support,” said Le Roux.
“We urge locals to report any suspicious activity and work closely with us to ensure a safe shopping experience.”
In the East, Wade Twilley of the local CPF, warned locals to be vigilant, particularly against scammers, and ensure their vehicles were locked.
“We are working closely with police, but we cannot disclose which areas we will be visible in,” Wade added.
Maximum Security Operations Manager Nicky Snit highlighted the risks of car-remote signal jamming, car theft, and ATM fraud.
“Make sure your car is locked when leaving the parking lot and stop in safe places,” Snit advised.
“Make sure your valuable belongings are locked inside the car.”
Snit said they’ll also have security teams patrolling shopping malls, and cars driving around the malls to keep an eye on things.
Pretoria North police and the CPF are collaborating closely to ensure a secure shopping experience.
Residents are advised to remain cautious and report suspicious activities.
