“This s*** is embarrassing” – Fans SLAM Athletics’ management as team drops ‘Oakland’ from name following move to West Sacramento

One of the biggest talking points in the 2024 MLB season was about the relocation of the Athletics. The A’s who previously played in Oakland were moved away from the city. On Monday, the team released a few new guidelines regarding them while dropping ‘Oakland’ from the team’s name.

Following their relocation from Kansas City in 1967, the team was called the Oakland Athletics. With their new ballpark in Vegas still under construction, the team will adopt Sacramento as their temporary home. As a result of this, they will simply be referred to as the Athletics or the A’s.

In the guidelines released on Monday, the team urged the viewers to refer to them as the ‘Athletics’. The team’s designation has been changed from OAK to ATH.

During their temporary stay in West Sacramento, the team will play their home games at Sutter Park. Whereas the official logo of the team will be “A’s” and not the Oakland seal which they had used for years.

Following the move of the Oakland Raiders and the Golden State Warriors, the Athletics were the last remaining professional sports team in the city of Oakland. This had led to severe protests from fans and former players who urged team owner John Fisher and MLB commissioner Rob Manfred to keep the A’s in Oakland.

After failing to do so, Fisher would release a farewell letter and claim he was sorry for what had happened. This though was not received well who ripped him for his statement.

Ever since the relocation of the Athletics was announced, fans had jumped on social media and demanded that the management keep the team in the city of Oakland. Several users had been highly critical of owner John Fisher and the other management team of the A’s.

The team changing their name was something that was inevitable. Several fans knew that this would come. As soon as a guideline was released, it ignited some wild reactions from the fans who once again bashed the management team of the Athletics.

Several users attacked Fisher and called him out. One fan wrote, “This s*** is embarrassing,” while another simply wrote “Shame” in response to this.

Check out some of the reactions from X below:

Fisher will likely remain under the spotlight for the time being. A good performance in the 2025 season may ease up fans a little bit. In the 2024 season, the A’s did show some signs of improvement and finished the year with a 69-93 record, far better than their 50-112 record in 2023.

However, the major question in the minds of many fans is what’s next in store for the Athletics? The current timeline for them to permanently move to Las Vegas is 2028. This could be delayed by another year if the ballpark is not ready in time.
