Red Bull driver Sergio Perez failed to notch a meaningful result yet again. The 34-year-old finished P10 at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Saturday after starting P16 on the grid due to a poor qualifying run.
Sergio Perez‘s performance woes have been prevalent since the start of the season. He secured four podiums out of the first five races but has since been unable to make any fruitful contributions to the Milton Keynes-based team.
The Mexican has pointed out that confusion in tire strategies was the cause of his poor performance in Las Vegas. Perez claimed that the team used the best tire improperly, which made him vulnerable on medium tires for the maximum portion of the race.
I think we got caught out with the level of their degradation that we had out there. We were not expecting this level of detail, and that really hurt us quite a lot, unfortunately. So we used the best tire at the wrong time, and then I had to do quite a long stint on the medium that was quite vulnerable in the middle. So it was all a little bit out of sync, unfortunately.

Perez’s future now hangs in the balance as a result of his poor performances this season. Red Bull senior advisor and the head of driver development Helmut Marko have since stated that the team will soon make a decision about his future.

Sergio is our driver, and we want to do the very best to get the most out of him. He’s had a really tough run of form over recent weeks and months. From a constructor’s point of view, we desperately need both cars right up there working as a pair, which we haven’t had.

Christian Horner has urged Sergio Perez to desperately start performing and notch good results for his team. The 50-year-old believes that Red Bull still has a shot at winning the title, but it will not be possible without the contribution of the Mexican.
Red Bull currently stands third in the constructors’ championship heading into the final races of the season. With McLaren and Ferrari being the more in-form sides, the Milton-Keynes-based team’s chances appear slim from here on.
