The South East Development Youth Stakeholders Forum has implored President Bola Tinubu, to appoint Rochas Okorocha as the Managing Director of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
The president of the group, John Onyewuchi, at a press briefing on Monday in Abuja, described the former Imo state governor as the most qualified for the position given his track record as a industrialist and a politician of repute.
Onyewuchi said: “In Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorochas, we found a man with sound political and economic strategic thinking and actions.
“It on this premise, therefore, that we call on Mr. President to carefully and meticulously choose who may be saddled with the leadership of the newly created South East Development Commission.
“The impact of this organisation in the lives of our people and the region cannot be neglected, thus experienced and transparent individuals of repute ought to be appointed into the board of this all important commission.
“After comprehensive comparison, assessment and having X-rayed leaders of South East extraction we have come to an incontrovertible fact that Distinguished Senator Anayo Rochas Okorocha stands tall among leaders from the zone who should head such a life saving organisation.
“It is pertinent at this point to state emphatically, that Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha as a seasoned politician and former Governor of Imo State with verifiable track record of valuable politician.”
SEDYSF Secretary, Ugokwe Ugochukwu Ugokwe, commended the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, for ensuring that the commission scaled through, adding that without his contribution, enemies of the region would have politicised the initiative.
Ugokwe said: “We wish to use this medium to appreciate the doggedness, pragmatic and exemplified leadership Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu for the development and his vision to continuously add value to the overall nation.
“He is a vibrant and energetic politician, whose high level commitment towards the well-being of the region with special reference to his huge contribution in the creation of South East development Commission has placed him on the lips of majority of our people.”
