The Tshwane Roads and Transport Department has committed to improving capital projects and tackling street cleaning, public space maintenance, and streamlining functions at licensing centres, intermodal facilities, bus ranks and taxi ranks so that residents can live, conduct business and commute in a conducive environment.
MMC for Roads and Transport Tlangi Mogale reaffirmed these commitments at the 100-day Action Plan presented by Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya on October 30.
The plan aims to turn around the metro’s fortunes and deliver equitable services to residents.
Mogale said the department acknowledges the challenges brought by budget limitations that directly hinder the delivery of services.
“We align ourselves with the commitment to resolve infrastructure issues immediately and improve capital project management, which has had a direct bearing on the finalisation of key capex projects.”
She said they would embark on a process of restarting all suspended projects in townships and informal settlements within the prescribed 100 days.
According to her, this will help project the metro onto a path of recovery in terms of service delivery backlogs.
“Among our commitments is providing clean streets and public spaces.”
Mogale explained this was in line with the commitments of the 100-day Action Plan that seeks to maintain clean townships and engage communities in clean-up programmes.
She added that the clean-up programmes include picking up litter, sweeping streets and clearing illegal dumping sites.
“The programme has already commenced in Mamelodi, Atteridgeville and the Pretoria CBD, which the department supported,” she said.
“Through its moniker #Bastrata, the department reiterates its unwavering commitment to the Re A Spana programme as presented by the Mayor, which will be launched this Friday, 1 November.”
Mogale said they will also lead the launch of a public-private city rejuvenation initiative in Sunnyside.
She added that clean streets, road networks and functional traffic lights also give life to a rejuvenated environment that is fit for human occupation.
“The Roads and Transport Department commits to the 100-day Action Plan and aims to achieve its objectives within the prescribed time frames.”
