An off-duty Badplaas police sergeant assisted in the apprehension and detaining of a 60-year-old suspect who was wanted in connection with fraud and corruption cases lodged at the Lyttelton and Pretoria Central police stations.
Thabo Puseletso Isaac Chele was arrested in Mpumalanga on Tuesday, November 12 after police searched for him this week.
Chele, who had allegedly preyed on government employees and defrauded them of their life savings in October 2023, was arrested at around 23:00.
Deputy provincial commissioner, Crime Detection, Major General Mbuso Khumalo, praised the sergeant’s thoroughness and vigilance, which led to the arrest.
“Her vigilance has resulted in the arrest and detention of the suspect,” said Khumalo.
“The Lyttelton investigation team will soon travel to Mpumalanga to bring Chele before a court of law.”
