Liverpool jump back to top spot with late COMEBACK win over Brighton

Liverpool and Arne Slot mean business this season. Nothing could’ve stood testament to the above statement than the Reds’ thrilling 2-1 victory over Brighton at Anfield. Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah earned Liverpool a crucial victory on a night on which Brighton could have very well taken home all three points.

Several spurned chances by Liverpool coupled with a strong defensive display from Bart Verbruggen and his defenders gave Arne Slot’s side a run for their money. Liverpool were put on the back foot early on in the game when Ferdi Kadioglu put the visitors ahead through a powerful shot from the edge of the box.

After several missed chances up until the final quarter, Cody Gakpo finally broke through when his cross for Darwin Nunez ultimately ended up in the net. Mohamed Salah then set the stadium on fire with a screamer into the top left corner.

With Manchester City losing 2-1 to Bournemouth, Liverpool are now back on top with a two-point lead over City.

Angry Arne Slot gives brutal assessment of his players on record-breaking night

With the 2-1 win over Brighton on Saturday, Arne Slot became the first Liverpool manager ever to win eight of his first ten League games. However, the exciting result didn’t stop him from having a strong word with his players following a lackluster first half. Speaking to the press following the game, Slot made no effort to conceal his frustration.

In the second half, I don’t think anyone deserved to be taken out. But in the first half, almost everyone deserved to be taken off. I wasn’t screaming but made sure that the players understood that this wasn’t enough and they felt it themselves as well.

Several fans praised Mohamed Salah for his clutch goal to complete the comeback. Confident Liverpool supporters taunted rival fans and made fun of them for thinking that their club would fall off in the Arne Slot era.

The Reds play their next game against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League before hosting Aston Villa four days later.
