Following the Nov. 7 arrests of three people in connection with the death of Liam Payne, Liam’s friend, Rogelio “Roger” Nores, has come forward to comment on the death of the singer, and to deny any part in his tragic death.
While Roger has not been specifically named by Argentinian authorities, he is rumored to be one of the three charged per a Nov. 8 story in La Nacion, an Argentinian newspaper, which stated: “After being charged by the courts with abandonment of a person resulting in death, in conjunction with the supply and facilitation of narcotics, Rogelio ‘Roger’ Nores, Liam Payne’s Argentine friend, broke his silence and provided details of the last meeting he had with the singer, minutes before his death.”
Who Is Rogelio ‘Roger’ Nores?
Argentinian authorities indicated that a hotel employee, an alleged drug supplier, and a “businessman” had been “charged with the crimes of abandonment of a person followed by death,” and “supply and facilitation of narcotics.”
Roger, an energy tycoon who was named to Forbes’ magazine’s “30 Under 30” list in 2018, is the CEO of Stoneway Capital, an energy company that develops power plants across Argentina.
“When he’s not jetting to Germany or Argentina,” his Forbes entry stated, “Nores is also working to develop modular liquefied natural gas technology in Pennsylvania.”
According to a story in the The Mirror, “It is believed Mr. Nores and Liam met at a house party in London, hosted by Edward Enninful, former editor-in-chief of British Vogue, in 2020.”
Roger has since broken his silence to address the news of his alleged arrest and talk about his relationship with Liam—and when he did, we realized that his name sounded familiar.

Back in June, rumors about the nature of Liam and Roger’s relationship began swirling after photos of the two leaving a bar were published. Per an email from Liam’s representative sent to TheThings in July, the person photographed with Liam was his manager and nothing else.
In Roger’s statement to the British tabloid The Daily Mail on Nov. 7 about the alleged charges, he provided a slightly different account of their relationship.
‘I Wasn’t Liam’s Manager’
In his statement to the Daily Mail, Roger detailed his version of events on the day Liam died, giving his account of the last time he saw Liam alive, saying:
“I never abandoned Liam, I went to his hotel [three] times that day and left 40 minutes before this happened. There were over 15 people at the hotel lobby chatting and joking with him when I left.
“I could have never imagined something like this would happen.”
Roger continued, explaining that he provided a statement to prosecutor Andrés Madrea on October 17, one day after Liam died. According to Roger, that one statement was the only time he’d “spoken to any police officer or prosecutor,” which appears to contradict La Nacion ‘s report that Roger has been charged in relation to Liam’s death.

The nature of Roger and Liam’s relationship also came into question amid Roger’s statement to The Daily Mail. In the July email we received, Roger was identified as Liam’s manager.
But in the Nov. 7 Daily Mail story, Roger said he never acted as a manager to the pop star.
I wasn’t Liam’s manager, he was just my very dear friend … I’m really heartbroken [over] this tragedy, and I’ve been missing my friend every day.
Unanswered Questions Still Remain
It is important to note that Roger was not named in the prosecutor’s statement disclosing the three arrests. Roger defended himself by referencing an email he sent to Liam’s handlers on Aug. 23 and forwarded to the Daily Mail, in which he allegedly raised concerns about Liam’s mental health and well-being, per Page Six.
So for now, who Roger is and what his relationship was to Liam—and to Liam’s death—are still somewhat unclear.
Another individual believed to be connected to the investigation and arrests, Braian Nahuel Paiz, came forward for an interview with Argentinian news outlet Telefe Noticias on Nov. 9.
Braian denied having sold drugs to Liam in the days before his death, and said: “We [used] drugs together, but I never took drugs to him or accepted any money.”
Per Page Six, Liam Payne’s body has been returned to the UK and a funeral will take place within the coming weeks.
