Ex-Marlins President David Samson BLASTS Derek Jeter for his failure as CEO, claims former Yankee captain ‘crushed’ the team

Former Miami Marlins President David Samson is clearly not a fan of Derek Jeter. He has once again blasted Jeter recently for his role as CEO of the team. After enjoying a wonderful playing career with the New York Yankees, the shortstop decided to try his hand at business.

During his four-year spell at the club, Jeter seemingly struggled with baseball operations behind the scenes and stepped down from his role. Samson has many times attacked Derek Jeter for his handling of the situation.

In a recent appearance at the Foul Territory Podcast, the 56-year-old once again torched the former Yankee captain and claimed he set the team up for failure and crushed them.

I just thought what Jeter did was set the team up for failure and that’s what happened. If you look at the way Jeter ran the team, he absolutely crushed them. Jeter criticized what we did, but he was way worse than I ever was. All of his player moves, all of the ways that he ran the team, as though he knew what he was doing. You’re now seeing the fact that they have to, again, start over.

Samson further added that the Miami Marlins never received the revenue that Jeter had promised. In the past two seasons, the Marlins have produced mixed results. They finished the 2023 season with a positive 84-78 record and clinched a National League Wild Card berth.

The Marlins ended up getting swept in the best-of-three series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 2024 season, on the other hand, was a season to forget. They recorded one of the worst starts in MLB history, lost star players Luis Arraez and Jazz Chisholm Jr., and ended bottom of the NL East division with a 62-100 record.

David Samson drops bold claim regarding New York Yankees

During his guest appearance on the Foul Territory Podcast, David Samson dropped a bold claim regarding the New York Yankees. The former Marlins president claimed that the team is not a “cash cow” and does not have much revenue.

While explaining the situation, Samson stated that the Yankees were no longer an income-profit team.

The Yankees are not a cash cow… It used to be that Yes Network funded all of their operating losses and funded these huge payrolls they have. The Yankees are not an operating income profit team, meaning they don’t throw off cash as a team. The Yes Network is not what it used to be. Their ownership in the Yes Network is not what it used to be.

As per reports, the Yankees are the most valuable team in MLB with a revenue of $7.6 billion. As a result of this, these claim of Samson has met with harsh criticism from the fans on social media. These words of Samson come at a time when the Bronx Bombers are looking to re-sign one of their superstar Juan Soto.

The four-time All-Star has received a qualifying offer from the team (which many expect he will reject). According to reports, the team is looking to poach Pete Alonso, who like Soto has Scott Boras as his agent and will enter free agency if he declines the qualifying offer from the New York Mets.
