Brock Purdy is set to miss the San Francisco 49ers Week 12 fixture against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The team’s PR department released the word on Friday.
According to reports, Purdy had limited practice this week due to a shoulder injury sustained during the 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week. He had an MRI on the shoulder to get a better understanding of the situation.
General manager John Lynch revealed the results looked favorable, but the front office aimed to keep it day to day.
We feel good about where it’s at from that standpoint. But still, you have to be able to go out and operate. And so, we’re kind of figuring all that out.

Purdy had limited throwing sessions and focused more on rehab training. The 49ers figured that it would be difficult for the fourth-year starter to play against the Packers, and their suspicion came true. Through their X account, the 49ers announced Brock Purdy‘s exclusion from the crucial all-NFC tie.

Brandon Allen to replace Brock Purdy for the Packers game
This will be the first time since December 2022 for Purdy to miss a game due to injury. The 49ers prepared for such an occasion beforehand and gave Brandon Allen the majority of the reps in the training.
Allen’s tenure in the NFL has mostly been as a backup since the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted him in 2016. He spent time with the Rams and the Bengals before joining the 49ers in 2023 following the summer clean-up, which saw both Jimmy Garappolo and Trey Lance leave the Bay Area.
Allen will start in place of Purdy against the Packers.

The 32-year-old is familiar with Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, whom he worked under at Rams. He will have the chance to better the 5-5 record the 49ers currently have after 11 weeks of NFL action. Josh Dobbs will be the backup.
As for Purdy, this is a difficult predicament. With a new contract on the horizon next year, he needs every game to go his way to bag every penny he can along with the silverware, which the Niners failed to achieve in the past two seasons. However, Purdy witnessed a slight decline in 2024, completing 66% of his passes for 2,613 yards, 13 TDs, eight interceptions, and a 95.9 passer rating that is down significantly from his league-leading mark of 113 in 2023.
For the time being, he should focus on getting his shoulder working properly. Besides Purdy, All-Pro pass rusher Nick Bosa will also miss the Packers game, and offensive tackle Trent Williams remains doubtful.
