The chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),Yobe state council, Comrade Rajab Mohammed Ismail, has charged media personnel to stop relying on hearsay for their reportage.
He tasked journalists to verify and balance their stories at all times.
Comrade Ismail made the call saturday while touring some of the renovated class rooms, administration blocks, hostels, halls, laboratories among others at Government higher Islamic collage Nguru, GDSS Gashua, Nigerian Turkish International College Mamudo, Ngelzarma and Government Science Technical Damagum among others in Yobe state.
He stated there was a report going round on social media that Yobe had zero allocation for education sector, saying the report is false.
” We as media personnel, what is expected of us is to balance out stories, we should not always rely on hearsay that is the essence of organizing this media tour to go round and see things for ourselves,” he said.
He commended the journalists who went round the schools with him to see the projects executed by the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni in Yobe state.
Speaking with Blueprint during the tour, Secretary to Yobe State Government Baba Mallam Wali said, Buni’s administration has provided a conducive teaching and learning environment for both students and teachers in the public secondary and primary schools in the state.
He revealed that, “Governor Buni gave a directive where committee was constituted to go round nooks and crannies to enroll out-of-schools children especially at the rural areas”.
Some of the Principal of the schools visited; Musa Bulama Jawi of GDSS Gashua,Usman Mohammed of higher Islamic collage Nguru and Hasibullah Jogi of Nigerian Turkish International College Mamudo appreciated the state government for the renovation and appealed to the government to provide modern equipments, perimeter fence and additional bore-hole.
