Seems like there’s a common point where both New York Yankees fans and Kansas City Royals fans can agree – Bob Costas’ awful baseball call. For the whole series between these teams, Costas’ call has been more painful for the fans than the loss of any team.
Both sides were frustrated with his wrong calls and low-level energy as the NLDS went on in full swing. Costas’s major blunder was during the eighth inning on Wednesday night.
Following a hit from the Kansas City Royals baseman Vinnie Pasquantino, Bob Costas excitedly called it a base hit without confirming it from the umpire. His call turned out to be wrong, as Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe made a diving catch. Even the players on the field seemed confused for a second.
Although, he immediately corrected himself saying, “Oh my gosh. What a play.” His broadcasting partner Ron Darling quickly interjected saying, “It was caught” to correct Costas’ previous assessment.

While mistakes on-air are quite common, however, the fans could not forgive Costas for making their heart leap with a wrong call in a crucial postseason game. Apart from this, there have been many more instances of his wrong call in the season.
Fans on social media are absolutely livid after Bob Costas made a mistake in a crucial high-pacing NY Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals game. They’re calling the league to fire him from the broadcasting center as this is likely his third mistake of the postseason.
Earlier this week, he was caught on hot-mic where he appeared to be not-so-enthusiastic about a CNN promo. Costas was also called out for his commentary on Giancarlo Stanton’s double, saying it lacked enthusiasm.
One fan on X commented, “This guy stinks,” while Fox Sports analyst Ben Verlander noted, “I can’t handle this broadcast. All of it. What is this.” Check out more fan reactions below:
I have watched baseball for 20+ years.
The @TBSNetwork broadcast for the Yankees vs Royals series is the worst product I’ve ever seen for professional sports.
Horrible sound mixing with the crowds, dreadful camera directing, and more.
EMBARASSING @MLB

It’s universally agreed upon that Bob Costas is the worst announcer in the history of baseball right?

I’m not a Royals fan or a Yankees fan.
But what hell is this INSANE bias from Bob Costas? He needs to be replaced.
He is audibly disgusted.

Will Bob Costas be fired after this series? High chance no. Will his commentary improve? Only the future can tell. But for now, it’ll be better to keep some distance between him and the mic; especially from MLB fans.
