The leadership of Afikpo Arts Forum, organisers of Afikpo Arts Festival and Exhibition, has announced December 29, 2024 as a date for the commemoration of third edition of the annual event.
A statement released on Tuesday, signed by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Eze Igwe and issued by the team lead, Media and Publicity, Franklyn Ginger Eke, disclosed that the highly anticipated Afikpo Arts Festival & Exhibition will take place on Sunday, Orie market day.
Held annually, the event has become a premier cultural platform showcasing the vibrant art, music and craftsmanship of the people of Afikpo and surrounding regions.
The 2024 edition will offer visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the traditional values and customs that make Afikpo culture so distinctive, while also enjoying modern artistic expressions.
“This year’s event promises to be a spectacular celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Afikpo, with a particular focus on the Iko Okochi Festival, a traditional event that embodies the spirit of friendship, love and unity.
“The Iko Okochi Festival, which takes centre stage this year, is a time-honoured tradition that celebrates the bonds of friendship and the importance of community. It serves as a symbol of unity among the people, bringing them together to promote peace, love, and shared values.
“This year’s theme will highlight the essence of this celebration through various artistic performances, cultural exhibitions and communal gatherings.
“The highlights of the 2024 Afikpo Arts and Cultural Festival will include traditional music, dance and drama, showcasing Afikpo’s cultural heritage.
“There will be art exhibitions featuring works from local and international artists inspired by Afikpo’s rich traditions. A special display and storytelling session dedicated to the Iko Okochi Festival, its history, and its relevance today.
“The one-day festival is scheduled to be held on Sunday (Orie), December 29, 2024 at Afikpo, Ebonyi State from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.
“The Planning Committee invites everyone to come and experience the warmth, beauty and creativity of Afikpo. Let us celebrate friendship, love and unity at the 2024 Afikpo Arts Festival and Exhibition,” the forum said.
The forum also noted that this year’s edition will feature “a food festival and craft stalls, offering visitors a taste of Afikpo’s traditional cuisine and handmade artisanal products.
The festival is expected to attract visitors from across Nigeria and beyond, making it an ideal cultural exchange and tourism platform.
