Yankees playoff dreams questioned as team prioritizes Alex Verdugo over Jasson Dominguez in September move

Putting aside the New York Yankees’ recent loss and team decisions, the fans are getting fed up over the organization’s deals. Especially their recent roster move has left all the fans and MLB critics ablaze, questioning their seriousness over the playoff dream.

In the September call-ups, fans and critics saw a name that they could not comprehend, considering how they all have been waiting for outfielder Jasson Dominguez in the Bronx. The team decided to promote Duke Ellis, over Dominguez who has been performing his best in the minor leagues.

They further complained about how the team and manager Aaron Boone have been protecting Alex Verdugo all this time despite his ongoing slump, and not promoting Dominguez to the lineup. The scrutiny deepened following the recent 14-7 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Boone noted that Jasson Dominguez is “certainly in the conversation and will remain in the conversation moving forward”. Currently, they want to see more consistency and improvement from the outfielder after he went into IL while recovering from Tommy John surgery and an oblique strain.

Fox Sports journalist Deesha Thosar highlighted how Dominguez is still in the minors, while Verdugo is in the Yankees lineup despite his struggles. He’s been going through a slump since June 15, recording an OPS of .539.

Despite fan criticisms, Boone said, “I do think he’s been a little bit unlucky this year,” but believes he’ll be better at-bats and overall contributions with time. Fans are questioning why Dominguez who is dominating the minor leagues was not brought back in the lineup and Ellis was chosen instead.

It seems for the time being, the New York Yankees will keep Alex Verdugo as their left fielder, instead of making a bold call on Jasson Dominguez. Although any move in the roster is debatable, the fans are criticizing the team’s lineup choices.

The team believes Dominguez needs more time in Triple-A. One X user commented, “The Yankees top priority is financial, not winning championships,” while another stated, “Get Verdugo n Grisham off this team.”

The Yankees talk a lot about having a ‘championship caliber roster.’ Each day that goes by with Jasson Domínguez in the minors, they don’t have their best 28 players in the big leagues.

Bryan Hoch commented on X.

Whether the Yankees will stick with Alex Verdugo even for the playoffs or for the time being is questionable. Boone has high hopes for the 28-year-old and has faith that “it gets him going” within the next few games.
