TV star changed her name legally after a conversation with her children

Fans have been eager to know the origin of 90 DF star Tigerlily’s unusual name. In a question and answer session on Instagram, the star has revealed the how, what, and why for this interesting namesake.

90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days star Tigerlily Taylor met her husband Adnan Abdelfattah on Instagram, and it was love at first sight. She crossed the oceans to meet and marry him, but not without some cultural misunderstanding on her part. While she may not have been clued in on her hubbies cultural heritage, her unique name is wrapped up in hers. Tigerlily recently revealed on Instagram how she acquired her name in a surprising story.

The 41-year-old TLC star’s legal name is Tigerlily, however, it hasn’t always been that way.

After every episode of season 7 the handwriting expert has been running an interactive question and answer session with fans on Instagram. In a recent post, one fan asked: “What’s your ethnicity, the name Tigerlily is super unique, where did it come from?”

The star revealed she is half Japanese on her mother’s side, and her father is Austrian and Native American.

In response to another viewer Instagram question, Tigerlily said: “It’s hard to tell what ethnicity I am with blonde hair, so here’s me all natural.”

The image revealed Tigerlily wearing a crown with curled brown locks. The reality star eluded that she has drastically changed her tresses due to certain, currently unrevealed, traumatic life events. She stated: “Basically, most people know, girls change their hair when life changing things happen.”

The prom princess is currently keeping quiet on the “reason” for the make-over, but tells fans to “stay tuned to find out why.”

Tigerlily was given her name from an adorable source

Another fan asked the star: “Is Tigerlily your real given name?”

In response, Tigerlily finally gave viewers the information they were looking for. Though her “legal name” is indeed Tigerlily, she was “born with a Japanese name, Mariko” and decided to change it “later in life.”

Urging fans to “guess the reason why” the 90 Day Star can’t keep schtum and gives Instagram users three solid reasons, the first being: “It means something derogatory in another language.”

Although spelled differently, the word ‘Marica’, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, is a derogatory name for a homosexual man in Spanish. This could possibly be the term Tigerlily is referring to.

The second reason is: “The person who named me poisoned, killed and stole from someone I care deeply about.” Who this person is and what went down remains unclear, however, it could possibly be related to the same “life changing” circumstances that lead to her bleached blow-out.

The third and final reason was: “I’m all about freedom and think we should pick our own names.”

It is through this carefree, hippy attitude that Tigerlily made the decision about how she should choose a more fitting name for herself.

In an unusual circumstance, she decided, since she had chosen her children’s names, it would only be fair if they were allowed to choose her name in return.

Tigerlily’s namesake is a fairy in Disney’s Peter Pan, a movie her kids absolutely adore. She said: “In the movie, there’s a character named Princess Tigerlily who is Native American. And that’s why they picked Tigerlily.”

Truly adorable.
