Now with Layla’s divorce party behind them, the women of The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives head to Vegas for a girls’ trip. The stars of the reality TV series try to move forward without Whitney as part of their core group.
The women also contend with controlling partners, as some of the men aren’t happy to hear that their partners are spending time alone in Vegas. Things heat up as the group is divided over whether certain activities are appropriate for them as modern Mormon women.
Secrets Come Out At Jessi’s Salon
The women gather at Jessi’s salon, where they’re happy to get treatments done at their friend’s business. Once again, the group hasn’t heard from Whitney, and they wonder what she’s up to at the moment. Apparently, Whitney has blocked some of the women and even unfollowed everyone on social media.
This especially comes as a surprise to her best friend Mayci, who feels blindsided by the development. She shares with the cameras how this feels uncharacteristic of Whitney:
I am absolutely shocked that Whitney unfollowed everyone. Even more so, I am so surprised she didn’t tell me at least that she was going to do that. To be honest, I know she’s impulsive, but I’ve never seen her this impulsive in my entire friendship with her.
Later, Jessi gathers the girls to have a sisterhood-themed party embracing their femininity. It turns out that the event is in honor of Jessi’s upcoming labiaplasty, a procedure which she’s particularly excited about since her body has changed after having kids. The friends sip on mocktails and each receive a canvas on which to paint their own lady parts, which they later present to one another with pride.
Taylor Talks Dakota Tension With Her Mom
Taylor goes over to her mom’s house to open up about her struggles in her relationship with Dakota. The two continue to have arguments so close to her due date, which makes her nervous about their future together. Her mother Liann asks Taylor to call Dakota so she can talk to him. The women text him that Taylor’s going into labor so that he picks up the phone, and when he realizes he’s been tricked into responding, he grows angry.
Liann tells Dakota they need to work together and unite for the sake of the baby. Dakota says that all he wants is a family but that Taylor seems to be standing in the way of that. He nearly loses his temper at the end of the call:
Just tell your daughter she needs to either commit to me or just end this, because I can’t keep doing this.
Taylor feels like her mom finally gets a glimpse of what she “puts up with every day.”
Jessi Bounces Back After Surgery
After Jessi’s surgery, Jen, Demi, and Layla go to check on her. Demi even brings her tulips in honor of her “two lips” that have been cut up and restructured. Jessi insists that she’ll have recovered quickly enough to head to Vegas in honor of Layla’s birthday trip, and has even been looking at rentals for the group to stay. Apparently, Dakota and Zac are also coming to Vegas so that Dakota can be close enough in case Taylor goes to labor—but Jessi has her own reservations, suspecting that the “two most controlling” men in the group want to be able to keep an eye on the women over the weekend.
While the women pack at their respective homes, we get a look at how each of the men reacts to their wives gearing up for a weekend in Vegas. Mayci and Jessi’s husbands seem happily secure, while Zac expresses how uncomfortable he’d feel if Jen were to attend a Magic Mike show, even as a joke. “Being divorced and taking care of two kids would be kind of tough, so I guess you make the decision,” he replies to her hypothetical.
More tension arises when Zac mentions he’s looking forward to gambling in Vegas—with the money Jen is bankrolling him. It seems that Zac has struggled with gambling in the past, but Jen tells her husband that she trusts him. To the cameras, she admits that she’s been having a rough time with Zac, as she feels he hasn’t been very supportive while she holds the primary role in both working and caring for their kids.
Taylor comes over to Jen’s place to drive to Vegas—without Dakota as planned, for the couple has had yet another fight. Eventually Dakota makes his way over and shares with Taylor that he feels “lost and confused” about where they stand. After talking about wanting to work as a team, the two make up, and the drive to Vegas begins.
The Men Try To Invade Vegas
The women make it to Vegas, and Jessi is displeased when Zac and Dakota come into their rental and try to hang around after it was made clear that this was meant to be a girls’ weekend. They finally get the men to leave, and given all the drama, Mayci wishes Whitney could smooth things over with the group and be there with them.
Meanwhile, Whitney and Conner head to a farm to check out the homesteader lifestyle, noting how nice it would be to live off the land. This stands in contrast to the rest of the group getting dolled up to go out in Vegas. Mayci grows anxious, confessing she received a tip on social media about a woman who slept with Dakota before she realized he was with Taylor. She has no idea who the anonymous confession is from but is wondering if she should tell Taylor, knowing it could detonate their relationship.
It turns out that Jessi’s Vegas surprise for the girls is going to a Chippendale’s show, something that makes Jen deeply uncomfortable. The women go to meet the strippers backstage before the show, and some of them even rub oil on the guys’ chests. Once they find out about the outing, Zac and Dakota are furious, and Zac even says he doesn’t want to be married to Jen if she does things like this. She’s frustrated that the situation was sprung on her and that she’s being punished for something she didn’t have a hand in, and the episode ends with her in tears.
The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives airs on Hulu.
