Sister Wives star Robyn Brown always wanted to be part of a polygamist relationship. After leaving her first marriage, a monogamous one, Robyn wanted to explore the type of family relationship she had growing up – a polygamous one.
However, Robyn’s marriage with Kody Brown ended up not being what she expected as her other sister wives, Janelle, Christine and Meri, have all since divorced their husband, Kody. Robyn is now left as the sole wife to Kody, and she isn’t sure this type of relationship is for her.
Robyn Brown Wanted To Be A Part Of A Polygamist Relationship
Sister Wives originally aired on TLC in 2010, which for the Brown family was a time of great change. Wife, Robyn Brown, and her three kids from a previous marriage, were being added to the polygamous family. The Sister Wives wives Meri, Janelle, and Christine had been together since 1994. Adding another wife 16 years later was bound to bring up issues.
Robyn claims she watched the polygamist family dynamic and wanted her and her three children to be a part of such a large family. Robyn herself grew up in a polygamist household.
Robyn’s first marriage was a monogamous one, and she wanted her second to be a polygamist union. She was a single mom for a few years before she met Meri Brown, and Meri introduced her to the rest of the family, including Kody. Robyn got her wish in 2010, when she and Kody were married, and she entered the polygamist relationship.
How Sister Wives’ Kody And Robyn Met
Robyn first saw Kody at her cousin’s church, and she was immediately taken by him.
“I’m not exaggerating when I say I felt as though I’d been shot through with a bolt of lightning,” Robyn has written about meeting Kody. She continued, stating she was “stunned” and “embarrassed” by her response to meeting the Brown patriarch. At the time she was still dealing with her contentious divorce, and therefore was hesitant to rush into anything. However, during that time, she did develop a friendship with Meri, who encouraged Kody to continue pursuing Robyn.
Kody has written about his time with Robyn.
“Both Meri and I were convinced that Robyn had a wonderful spirit — kind and profound.”
He continued, “Even our brief conversation with her stirred our souls. We wanted to get to know her better. I felt an undeniable connection to this woman I had just met, as did Meri. This connection was so deep and spiritual that it kept us up all night.”
How Kody’s Marriage To Robyn Changed The Brown Family Dynamic
Robyn and Kody Brown courted for around six months, which for polygamist relationships is a very long time.
When Kody married Robyn, there was a significant impact on the Brown family. Meri, Janelle, and Christine were married to Kody the longest, and despite having their own issues as any marriage would, they made it work.
Meri and Kody were married in 1990, Christine and Janelle married Kody in 1993 and 1994 respectively. However, when wife Robyn was added to the mix in 2010, tension erupted.
It was clear that Robyn was the preferred wife for Kody, and he appeared very clear in playing favorites. Kody spent significantly less time with his other wives and the children he shared with them. Complicating things was the fact that Robyn brought her three children from a previous marriage into the mix, which created further resentment for the wives and their many kids.
When Robyn initially joined the polygamist marriage, she told Meri, Janelle, and Christine that it was not her intention to add any drama to the Browns, already, at that point, fragile relationship.
However, Robyn did not stick to that assertion, as she routinely played the victim in front of Kody – who then reprimanded his other wives for their behavior and falsely claiming that they were not treating Robyn with respect.
For the other women, this was a ridiculous assertion as it was obvious that Kody and Robyn were prioritizing their marriage above the others and were creating a false narrative around their treatment of Robyn to justify their horrible treatment of them.
As it turns out, Robyn would end up with the prize she made it seem she wanted all along – Kody all to herself.
Season 18 saw Meri, Janelle, and Christine all divorcing Kody. So, despite Robyn wanting to be part of a polygamous marriage, she now once again finds herself in a monogamous one.

‘ Kody Brown has 18 children in total, including the five kids he shares with Robyn Brown – three adopted and two biological.
Is A Sister Wives’ Robyn And Kody Divorce Likely Now Too?
Even though the premise of the Sister Wives’ marriage was seemingly about being a part of a polygamous relationship, Kody and Robyn are now only married to one another.
For someone who has been with multiple women his entire life, this transition into being a one-woman man doesn’t seem to be sitting well with Kody. This is surprising given all the favoritism he showed Robyn and the fact that he clearly loved her more than Meri, Christine, and Janelle.
However, reports have come out that Kody is being “controlling” and “volatile.” A source told the US Sun, “He’s completely changed. He’s angry and he’s volatile.”
“He doesn’t like anybody that’s not worshiping him.”
In 2023, it seemed that Kody was open to the idea of a monogamous relationship with Robyn. In Sister Wives: One on One, Kody admitted to some of his past mistakes and the differences he would make moving forward.
When asked if he would be recruiting another wife to join him and Robyn, Kody responded, “I would have to tell that woman I will never love you as much as I love her,” he added. “Now I know better.”
Robyn, however, added an interesting wrinkle to this statement by voicing that she felt slightly betrayed by Kody because she wanted to have a polygamous marriage the whole time. Robyn explained, “It’s weird. To be loving and respectful to Kody, I want to say yes but I just don’t know how this works exactly,” she said. “It’s weird. I feel like it’s disrespectful.”
In the most recent Sister Wives trailer, Robyn admitted that things were not all roses for her and Kody. “I feel like the idiot that got left behind,” she said.
Kody is apparently turning into someone who reminds Robyn of her controlling ex, and she is determined not to have her children return to those dynamics.
“She’s not going to let her kids be raised in the same volatile, angry state that her other kids were raised in.” claims the source to the
US Sun.
The source also claimed, “Robyn and Kody are not doing well. They have been very unhappy. I mean, they’ve been unhappy since everything fell apart, but even more so now, it’s getting worse,” Season 19 of
Sister Wives
is sure to uncover some Brown family tension, and the future of this
marriage definitely appears to be in question.
