Two men arrested in Silver Lakes, Pretoria appeared in court on Wednesday, September 4 for allegedly manufacturing counterfeit SA Rand and US Dollar notes.
The court case against the two counterfeit currency manufacturers was postponed to September 10, pending a bail application.
Jude Yaya Oka and Evans Akor Tiku were arrested in Silver Lakes along Ferreira Street, Fountains Residential Estates.
The duo appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on charges of allegedly manufacturing counterfeit local and foreign currency.
Gauteng Hawks spokesperson, Captain Lloyd Ramovha, said a multidisciplinary team pounced on the suspects at a Silver Lakes residence.
“The Pretoria-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in collaboration with the SAPS K9 unit, as well as the South African Reserve Bank representatives worked together on an operation after receiving information from Counter and Security Intelligence, and Crime Intelligence.
“A self-storage unit was searched after interviewing the two suspects. Inside the storage were black plastic bags that the accused were loading into a nearby parked motor vehicle,” Ramovha said.
The counterfeit money and a printer used to produce the fake money were seized.
“The pair have been charged for contravention of the Currency Act and violation of the Reserve Bank Act,” Ramovha said.
