Police arraign ex-Sharia court judge for maltreating house wife

 

Police in Zaria local government area of Kaduna state Tuesday  arrested and arraigned a retired Upper Shari’a Court Judge, Mahmoud  Shehu, referred to as dependant before a Magistrate Court sitting at Tudun Wada, Zaria.

 He was arrested for use of force and assaulting a housewife who is blind,  contrary to section 327,237 and 239 of penal code law of Kaduna state 2017.

The prosecution, Inspector Adamu Abubakar, the told the court that on the 6th of this month, one Garba Adda’ u, a resident of Gonar Ganye Tudun Jukun Zaria, lodged a complaint at Tudun Wada divisional Police headquarters that the dependant allegedly lucked up their main gate and followed his wife who is a blind person into her room and beat her alongside 2 ladies who attempted to give the victim cover.

He added that the dependant’s action resulted in rushing her (the victim) to health facility  at Tudun Wada for medical attention.

When the court asked the defendant if he committed the offence, he pleaded not guilty.

The defence counsel, Barrister SM Abubakar, applied for bail because of the personality of  his client as a retired upper Shari’a court judge.
