Oscar Piastri confesses ‘not easy’ to support Lando Norris over himself after McLaren’s decision to enforce team orders

The highly competent drivers at McLaren have continued to push each other hard this season. Lando Norris currently finds himself just 62 points behind leader Max Verstappen and is closing in on the Red Bull driver. That said, Oscar Piastri believes that it wouldn’t be easy to let his teammate through in a race to ensure he stayed in the hunt for the title.

The Hungarian GP saw some internal team controversy as Lando Norris wouldn’t let Oscar Piastri win easily. Additionally, the Italian GP witnessed yet another issue with the team orders. With Piastri trailing by 106 points in the championship battle, it has been naturally expected of the Aussie to help his teammate during the races.

Piastri has stated that the team had asked him to help out Norris in his championship battle. The Australian made it clear that he was ready to help the team. However, he pointed out that it wasn’t easy to let his teammate through easily.

The team have asked me to help out, and I’ve said for the last few races if I was asked I would. As a driver, it’s not an easy thing to agree to but there is a bigger picture at play that’s not just myself.
