The chairman, House Committee on Information, Osun Assembly, Hon. Adekunle Oladimeji, Monday said only the auditor can request for the finances of the assembly.
The legislator who responded to the allegation by a civil society group, The Osun Masterminds (TOM), said the legislators have not been accountable to the people despite several petitions written to demand explanation on some of the spending of the assembly.
Oladimeji said: “It depends on the kind of information they ask, if you’re asking the House that you want to know their financial statement, it is not possible that they’re going to give you. It is only an auditor that can request for the finances of the house.”
The group in its monthly state of the state address made available by its executive director, Professor Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, bemoaned the assembly for refusing to respond to petitions written to it by different organisations.
“We bemoan and condemn in very strong terms the irresponsibility of the Osun House of Assembly in the management of demands placed on them and response to petitions written to her.
“As a group, we have a record of petitions written to the House of Assembly by groups that form our coalition and those not even related to us at all.”
