The National Population Commission (NPC) in collaboration with the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has commenced a three-day training for volunteers and health workers on Electronic Civil Vital Registration Statistics(E-CRVS)for the registration of children aged zero to five years in Yobe state.
In his welcome remarks,Yobe NPC State Director,Iyawa Dafunda Madagwa, said the training is organized by NPC was funded by UNICEF for adhoc registrars and health workers selected from all the electoral wards in the state.
He stated that the National Orientation Agency( NOA) officers were told to mobilize Yobe people in various communities to come out and register their children while the PHC personnel and the adhoc registrars will do the registration of all children below 5 years.
The Director revealed that in Yobe for easy monitoring, the training is divided into two phases.The first phase will be damaturu cluster with participants drawn from Damaturu,Gujba, Gulani and Tarmuwa Local government areas and Potiskum cluster with participants from Potiskum, Fune Nangere and Fika local government respectively.
He further stated that the second phase will be for the remaining clusters of Gashua with Bade,Yusufari and Jakusko local government areas; Nguru cluster will comprise Nguru,Machina and Karasuwa local government areas while Geidam cluster is made up of participants from Geidam,Yunusari and Bursari local government areas.
“This will commence immediately after the first phase which will end on the 11th September, 2024.However, at the end of the training all functionaries will be deployed to their various wards for the registration where every registrar will be given a target”.
He urged all the participants to take the training seriously and ask questions where necessary so that whatever they are going to register can be approved by the Deputy Chief Registrars in their respective Local Government Areas.
In her remarks, the representative of UNICEF, Aisha Lawan, said on their own part, UNICEF is supporting the program considering the importance attach to birth registration in the country.
She urged the participants to pay much attention during the training as UNICEF intends to eradicate the era of paperwork in the registration of birth in the country to improve the accuracy of the data collection.
