Jim Parsons Broke A Big Bang Theory Rule During His Recent Interview With Stephen Colbert

Throughout the years, Jim Parsons has been a recurring guest on The Late Show alongside Stephen Colbert. His most recent interview caught fans by surprise, as the actor promoted his recent project, one that isn’t under the bright Hollywood lights but instead, on the broadway stage.

Jim Parsons got wonderful feedback for the discussion. However, by the end of it, the majority of fans were discussing his current appearance. We are digging the beard, but it would not fly with Chuck Lorre and The Big Bang Theory given the set of rules the cast had to follow during its time as the most-watched comedy on all of television.

Jim Parsons Broke His Big Bang Theory No Beards Rule With His New Look Alongside Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert recently took a break from his guests related to the political world, and instead, welcomed Jim Parsons. Most of us needed a double take, as Parsons looked unrecognizable, sporting a beard. This is the first time fans saw Parsons with the new look, and it is safe to say he was able to pull it off.

The interview featured the former Big Bang Theory actor discussing his latest project on broadway, Our Town. Parsons clearly has a passion for his work outside of Hollywood’s big sets. Both the guest and host agreed that broadway is the future of entertainment given the simplicity involved.

Diehard Big Bang fans might’ve noticed that Parson broke his golden rule during the interview. Chuck Lorre revealed that beards were forbidden on The Big Bang Theory set. For that very reason, the likes of Johnny Galecki and Kunal Nayyar grew beards when the show wasn’t shooting and on break. Ironically, the four main male characters are also sporting beards today (including Simon Helberg).

Chuck Lorre was strict when it came to the identities of the characters, especially for reshoots and the continuity of the show. In one instance, Lorre panicked after Kaley Cuoco cut her hair without warning. Lorre feared that the fans who were attached to her appearance might’ve felt differently about the series. Clearly, the likes of Cuoco and Parsons don’t have to worry about that any longer!

Back to Parsons’ interview with Colbert, the actor addressed the profound meaning behind his character of Thornton Wilder in Our Town, and how it compared to his personal life.

“For me, the play is most resonant in my own personal existence every morning. I genuinely wake up with a good part of me being so happy to get up and the possibility. I’m grateful that I’m alive…And then there’s always the other part going ‘You’ve got to hurry, you’ll never get all of this done!’ And that’s the dichotomy to me…But I think that’s the other message in the play that, in a weird way, is hopeful or at least very forgiving…is that you’re not going to appreciate every moment [in life].”

Fans were full of praise for Parsons and his interview with Colbert. As expected, the most liked comments were praising his ageless appearance and new look.

Big Bang Theory fans will be sad to learn that Jim Parsons did not discuss anything Big Bang Theory related during his chat with Stephen Colbert. His most recent comments came in late May. The actor discussed a possible Big Bang Theory sequel, but did not seem optimistic about the chances.

Parsons added that it would take “Reincarnation,” in his “next lifetime” to reprise the role of Sheldon Cooper. Ouch…

At the very least, fans did get to see Parsons revive his role in Young Sheldon during the series finale. Parsons called it a “weird feeling.”

“It was very special to do that,” he said. “The feeling today is kind of odd. It’s the second time now because when we ended The Big Bang Theory it felt like this too, a little bit different, but you shoot that final episode and it’s wrapped for you. And then a couple of months later it wraps for the rest of the world and it’s a very weird feeling to flood over you again like that.”

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the rest of the cast. For Jim Parsons, the actor has made it clear where his priorities currently are.
