“I’m eagerly awaiting that day…” Canelo Alvarez reveals why he likes opponents who trash-talk

Mexican boxing sensation Canelo Alvarez has been an active professional boxer for around two decades now. During this time, Alvarez faced opponents of every sort and managed to defeat most of them. The 34-year-old Mexican boxer is currently scheduled to fight against Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas. Ahead of the fight, Canelo Alvarez revealed an intriguing attribute he wants his opponents to have.

Before their fight week, Canelo and Berlanga traded several verbal shots at each other. The one at the NYC presser seemingly buzzed out the most. The Puerto Rican boxer, in particular, kept his trash talk on even after that presser. In reference to that, Alvarez talks about how he feels about hearing such nasty disses from his opponents.

I like them like that. I like them to be confident and do a lot of talking. I like breaking their face when they play like that. I'm eagerly awaiting that day. It will be the beatdown of his life.

As per Canelo, he likes it when his opponents diss him ahead of the fights. The Mexican boxing sensation’s fight against Caleb Plant was one of the fights with extreme displays of trash-talking. As such, it even resulted in a heated brawl in the pre-fight presser. However, following that, they seemed to have buried a hatchet to their feud. As such, Alvarez even stepped up for his former rival at the NYC presser.

Despite being undefeated, Berlanga has been a controversial figure in the boxing world for quite some time. However, instead of shying away from his trash-talking ahead of the fight, he takes subtle digs at the Mexican boxer. Interestingly, it’s not always negative. Recently, Berlanga mentioned that he feels Canelo is underestimating him.

Edgar Berlanga claims Canelo Alvarez does not consider him a threat

Canelo Alvarez has often faced severe scrutiny for cherry-picking opponents as per his wish. Interestingly, several prominent individuals in the boxing community believe he did the same against Edgar Berlanga. Coming to Berlanga’s professional record, the Puerto Rican boxer is undefeated with 22 wins. However, as it seems, that isn’t enough to shake someone experienced like Canelo.

Although Alvarez has at times acknowledged Berlanga’s skillset, Berlanga thinks otherwise. The Puerto Rican even claims that the Mexican boxing legend might be undermining him. In addition, Berlanga mentioned using this negligence as fuel to get motivated for his fight.

Canelo is overlooking me. He knows that I have skills. He's probably doubting that, too, and that I don't hit hard. He's 100 percent doubting my fighting IQ and experience... He can have that mindset, but he's going to get f*cked if he goes into the fight with that kind of mindset.

With just a week away, all eyes are on which contender will live up to their pre-fight hype and trash-talking.
