Red Bull Motorsport Consultant Dr. Helmut Marko has been pivotal in building the Milton Keynes-based squad. The 81-year-old was the right-hand man of Late Dietrich Mateschitz. Now, Marko has admitted that he could take a step back in the coming years.
Helmut Marko became 81 years old in 2024. The Austrian admitted that he was not getting any younger. The 81-year-old highlighted that his contract with Red Bull extends till the end of 2026. However, Marko will continue to fulfill his duties for Milton Keynes as long as he is physically and mentally fit to do so.
I’m not getting any younger. My contract goes till 2026 but as long as I am physically and mentally in shape to do my job, [I will continue].Helmut Marko said on the Inside Line F1 Podcast
The Red Bull advisor insisted that he enjoyed his role with the team. However, naturally, Helmut Marko affirmed that he would slowly take a step back. Moreover, the 81-year-old will be looking to find a suitable successor who can fill his shoes.

Helmut Marko asserts Red Bull needs to ‘rebuild’ after recent struggles
Red Bull is witnessing its biggest performance slump in recent years. Max Verstappen has gone winless for six races in a row. Both drivers are facing severe balance issues with the RB20. Helmut Marko claimed that Verstappen made it clear that extra downforce won’t help if the car is undriveable. As such, Marko emphasized that the team needs to find a solution as soon as possible.
Max Verstappen said in Monza that he doesn’t need 20 points more downforce if it makes the car undriveable, so we have to rebuild and hopefully find the point at which the car was in balance.Helmut Marko wrote for Speedweek
Certainly, Red Bull has found itself in a difficult spot in the title fight. McLaren and even Ferrari seem to have an edge over Milton Keynes. As such, time is running out for the reigning world champions to bounce back and defend their titles this season.
