In a dramatic twist, the court-reinstated deputy governor of Edo state, Comrade Philip Shaibu, Monday inspected the state government-owned 5-star Radisson Hotel project.
In a 10 minutes, 22 seconds video, Shaibu was seen monitoring the progress of work in the site located at the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin City.
The video also showed Shaibu being guarded by policemen as workers on site led him through the facility which nears 80 percent completion.
Shaibu was impeached by the Edo state House of Assembly on April 8, 2024 following a judicial panel report.
However, Justice J. K. Omotosho of Abuja Federal High Court voided the impeachment in July. The state government and the assembly however filed an appeal for stay of execution.
Meanwhile, the Edo state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has warned Shiabu not to act in breach of extant laws over the hotel inspection.
In a statement, the special adviser on Media Projects to the governor, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, cautioned Shaibu not to disrupt the process of governance, but subject himself to the law at all times.
He added: “Shaibu, just like any private citizen, can take a tour around the exceptional projects of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
“We warn, however, that both Shaibu and the security agencies should not carry out actions that violate the laws and the constitution.
“Shaibu should be patient and wait for the Appeal Court to hear his matter, he needs to learn to subject himself to authority of the law.”
