Nigerian skitmaker and actor Abiola AbdulGagar, better known as Cute Abiola, is marking the one-year remembrance of late singer Ilerioluwa Promise, popularly known as Mohbad.
Refreshing your memory, Mohbad a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, tragically passed away at 27 under unclear circumstances on September 12, 2023. Following his death, videos made rounds of him being bullied by his former boss and his members.
Today, September 12, 2024, marks the one-year remembrance of the late singer, and to remember him, Cute Abiola took to his Instagram page to share a clip of the singer at an event. He noted how it’s been a year as he urged him to rest on.

Recall that when the news of his death first broke out, Cute Abiola recounted his last moment with him, revealing that Mohbad had agreed to feature in his project.
He also revealed that the singer, whom he shared a close bond with, was planning to buy a Range Rover Velar before his untimely demise. Noting how no one can question God, he expressed how pain he was over his death.
Last month, ahead of Mohbad’s first remembrance, Yomi Fabiyi announced a solidarity assembly for fans and lovers of the singer in front of The High Court (Coroner Inquest), Ikorodu, Lagos, on September 11th. Reading out some riot acts, he stated that the assembly would continue demanding justice for the late entertainer.
Since his death, Mohbad’s fame has soared higher, with American rapper, Meek Mill even reacting to his death by appreciating the way Nigerians are fighting for him.
3 of the rapper’s songs have been ranked in the Billboard Top 10 and he has become the first African artist without an album to do it.
This achievement brought renewed attention to his music and legacy, and it was worth noting that securing a place on the Billboard Hot 100 is no small feat. This chart represents the most popular songs in the United States, and it is highly competitive. For Mohbad to achieve this milestone without even releasing a full album is a huge milestone.
