Report from Benin City, Edo state capital has revealed that several students of University of Benin (UNIBEN) have been trapped in a storey building following its collapse on Ekhator street, Ekosodin, an area known for student housing.
Eyewitness account suggests that the collapse could be attributed to a heavy downpour that started in the early hours of Saturday, 14th of September , 2024 which fell till about 10 am.
Authorities including the university management were yet to make any statement regarding the incident as at the time of filling this report.
The incident happened one week to Edo governor’s election slated for September 20, 2024.
