The NFL’s first game in Brazil was nearly a success, but concerns arose from Eagles players over security issues, and more critically, the turf. Players slipped on the mixed surface, signaling it wasn’t suited for football. Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love’s injury late in the game has many football followers outraged.
With a few seconds left on the clock and the Packers trailing by five, a touchdown was the only option if they were to win. On the previous drive, Jordan Love threw a brilliant pass for his team to gain significant yards. But on what ended up being his last snap, he tried to spin away from the Eagles defenders. But Jalen Carter and Josh Sweat brought him down to end the play. Green Bay Packers training staff rushed onto the field as cameras picked up Love writhing in pain.
At that moment, Love’s left leg was wedged, and he came down with Sweat’s body weight on top of him. That caused his left knee to pop, as what it looked like from replays. One can argue that the atrocious field conditions of Arena Corinthians might not have directly caused that injury, but Jordan Love was struggling to keep his feet planted all throughout the game.
That slippery surface could have contributed to this injury. In his efforts to gain a solid footing to toss the ball to running back Josh Jacobs, he may have inadvertently pushed his foot a little under Carter’s torso, which forced the knee to bear the brunt.
Football fans are a passionate bunch. They knew in their hearts at the instance Jordan Love went down, that the mixed turf had something to do with it. The entire sporting world watched as players as well as referees slipped and fell on that mixed turf throughout the night. They waited with bated breath in the hopes of the night ending without a casualty. But when the Packers star went down, they took it all out on the NFL.
Fans took to social media to vent their anger towards the league’s decision to play a game on such an atrocious field that too in Brazil. Their worst fears came to the forefront with this injury. Check out some of those reactions below;
The Green Bay Packers hope that their quarterback is not facing a lengthy time away from the game. Their season hangs in the balance at this moment. Else, they most likely will join the fans and the Philadelphia Eagles to voice their displeasure to the NFL.
